Lightbulb Ultimate Chrome Rim Research

After 6 months of research on chrome replacement rims for my 2001 L, here are my results:

http://www.thewheelexchange.com/

I purchased my rims from The Wheel Exchange in North Carolina. I ordered them back in March and they agreed to ship them USPS Parcel Post. This method of shipping takes 3-5 weeks to get to Alaska and I was fine with that. Anyway, the Post Office lost my rims and they could not produce the tracking numbers for them so they lost a set of $1200 rims. They offered to give me a 100% refund on the rims and shipping. After I checked around I learned that they were still the cheapest so I called them back and told them I was still interested. They sent my rims to me FEDEX 2nd Day Air and paid all extra shipping costs over what I already paid. And that must have been quite a lot! Their customer service was great and the rims they sent me look awesome. No problems whatsoever!

Never heard about any problems with Capital Wheels. They do not have L rims on their site, so you have to call. They only ship UPS and FEDEX and are slightly more expensive.

Only has 1999-2000 style rims available as of now. I called. Decent pricing.

Santa Ana does not usually have our rims in stock for a chrome exchange, but if they do then they will do it. Have a funky deal with their payment process. Won't take your CC number over the phone. They pay shipping to you and you pay to ship back. They seem to have had problems with flaking chrome in the past, but they apparently have cured the problem. Good price if you can do without your rims. $600 with shipping one way.

No wheel exchane program. About $400 bucks to chrome all 4 rims and you pay shipping both ways. No info on quality.

http://www.aaarims.com/index.html

No problems with quality. Great customer service. Most expensive I found at $1600 or half back with wheel exchange. You pay shipping both ways.

No wheel exchange program. About $1300 before shipping. No info on quality. Will ship USPS.

http://www.nu-chrome.com/

Will not do wheels. I have sent my billet fuel door to them to get chromed. Decent pricing, but **** poor customer service. Their customer service guy is never available. I will not deal with them again!!!!

I hope this helps anyone that is in the market to get chrome rims for their L. I pretty much only got info on the 2001-2002 rims. Oh, and here is a picture of my truck!

Great post!

Don't forget www.tirerack.com

$300 per wheel. Direct replacement Ford Motorsport chromes w/SVT center caps.
$200 per wheel. Sold on Ebay.

$400 final cost for chrome rims. This calculation omits the cost of mounting, balancing, etc. since you would have to do it with any wheels you purchased.

Good post...but i drove over to aaa rims a week or so ago to buy a set of 00 rims and they quit stocking them and had a set of 01's waiting for me.
I of course did not buy them but the price was 1200.00 and they give you 500.00 for your old rims....the price they quoted you sounds closer to there 20 inch rim price of 1650.00.

The cheapest place for chrome rims outright, that i have found is www.wheelreplicas.com at 1050.00 per set in 18 in and 1450 for 20's.

I set an extra set of 2002 wheels to santa anna wheel in CA last week for the chrome plating. They claim a 2-3 week turn around and will return my wheels. Cost was $550 including the center caps and return shipping with 2 yr warranty. My shipping cost around $80 from Tennessee. The wheels which were take offs cost $650. Total cost approx. $1280 plus mounting and balancing.

It was hard to find 2001/2 chrome wheels less inexpensive than that. Most are selling just the 99/00 wheels in chrome.
