Unhappy electric fan install

i was hoping my next thread was going to be a positive one, but i need some help. i am trying to install my new dual electric fan setup, but i am have one heck of a time getting the fan body nut loose from water pump snout!!!! i have tried a pry bar, a few broken screw drivers, and i'll be darn i can get it loose. i am trying to loosen it the opposite direction from how it normal runs which should be correct. if anybody has any helpful hints i'd greatly appreciate it. i have a 2000 Lightning. thanks Greg

Take a big vice grip, tighten it around the water pump shaft.

Now take a big adjustable wrench or if you have a open end wrench to fit the fan shaft. Push it towards the passenger side of the truck.

That will do it for you.

Good Luck

Might sound like a dumb question....

Don,

I don't have my kit yet ( due on 30-JUN-02 ), and I am just trolling the pages for pointers so when I do get it next week, I have a smooth install..so please bear with me, I have no directions to read.

When I look at the fan on a 5.4L ( XLT ) I see the shaft, and the pulley with the 4 bolt heads.

Without directions to read, do you take the pulley off first ?

When I look through you gallery ( Don C right ? ) The best I can see is from the pic :
https://www.f150online.com/galleries...=19329&anum=34

Is this a shot of the water pump with the pulley off of it ( by removing the 4 bolts ) ?

I do not recall by the threads if you put a Cobra water pump in durring this or not ( kind of hard to keep with with the mods on the different Silver L's, let alone all of them <g> ).

Sorry for teh stupid question here, like I said I don't have it yet, just preping like a mad man ( or more so can't wait to get my fan kit...like a kid at xmas..<g> ).

Thanks for putting up with a lowely SCrew owner....

Ya Don C is my gallery, that was my old screen name.

You don't take the pulley off, you will se a shaft coming out of the pulley. There should be a inch or two sticking out. You can either rent a tool that goes around the 4 bolts, or do the vice grip trick I used. Just grab the shaft with the vice grip.

When I did the fan kit last year I didn't do a Cobra water pump. When I did the motor I replaced it with the cobra pump.

I put a pry bar b/t two of the 10mm pulley bolts to stop rotation. Then put an adjustable wrench on it and took it off like any other nut or bolt you would take off. It is normal thread. Goodluck with it. I feel my truck sounds 10 times better with out that stupid heavy clutch fan. Hehe. -Mat-

To loosen it- turn it counterclockwise. After you get a large wrench on it, get a rubber malet and do two or three medium whacks and it should loosen up.
