Any Lightning Owners Worried About The New Dodge?

I dont know if this is on anyones mind, but coming out of Cobraland and facing the fact that the flagship vehicle for SVT has been the Lightning for the last 3 yrs, are any of you worried about the new Dodge SRT/10?

I was at a pub the other night and i overheard the door guy braggin about his Dodge Dakota R/T ( gay ) how he will get in the low 13's someday. I guess he really thinks his Dodge is a true sport truck. He was also bragging how his truck out handles a Lightning. At any rate, him and another guy were talking about how bad *** the new SRT is supposed to be.

So anyone have any input to add? I can fathom a V10 pig with a 6 speed manual in a truck being a street terror like the Lightning. I was also wondering if Ford has anything up their sleeves to combat the 500HP of this truck?

Im getting ready to buy my truck but being so close in between model year changeovers, i was wondering if im better off waiting.

Thanks.

The No was really for the dodge thing.

Actually a Sonic blue 03 does sound pretty cool.

In sock street trim I'm not concerned. I don't think may guys will be able to get ths Dodges 6-speed and 35 series 24" tires to hook enough to bet a modded high 12 L.
On the other hand on sticky tires with even minor mods with a good driver we will have our hands full.
Until I see one (6 speed?) come down the pike it's hard to say how the truck will really perform.

If someone wants to spend $55,000+ for a truck, just to line up next to me and beat... I will shake their hand and tell them they are special.

But to simply answer your question: No, I am not worried about the new Dodge truck. I gave that insecurity up a long time ago!

"Meet the new Dodge, same as the old Dodge ..."

I'll believe it when I see it.

Thumbs up $$$ = Low ETs.

There will always be something newer, better, faster, cooler, etc that comes along.
Agree with owheelies and 02thunder... Look at all the vipers that run, not many guys can get the max out of them because they're hard to drive. Imagine it in a non-aerodynamic, poorly weight distributed, heavier package!
Even if it does go fast, I figure a full house makeover for the L is around $10K (bootom end, head work, more blower/boost, tranny, suspension and tires), which still leaves me ~ $10K change.
No brainer for me.

Wink

First off if they really ever do produce the SRT-10 it will be a sweet truck, in my opinion. But for the money, I don't think that many of us will run into many of these. I would love to see one in person and I also would love to race one, win or lose, it would be a great video clip that I would love to have. But I would be leaning towards a win....

Cool Not Even Concerned

How many people want to step up to pay that kind of money for a truck? I dont know about the rest of the guys/girls here, but my 2k over sticker, plus minor mods (hard tonneau, bedrug, Wet Okole's, etc..) is enough.. so you go to Dodge pay inv or invoice + then you add on a few more grand for same kind of mods..
Then you have to get that much power to the ground and driver skill will do more for you than the difference in power on a race from a stop.. out on the freeway may be different but I dont play those games anymore.. too dangerous to do in a big city with our traffic, even late at night (as some do here)..
The improvement from '02 to '03 is out there and they did make the L more usable by upping the weight it can carry in the bed, according to a recently published report.. and you will have a few more colors to choose from if you get to the dealer soon enough.. But remember the black ones are the fastest.. dont let those silver guys fool you.. ha ha
Lastly, which trucks looks are you going to be happier with in the long run.. I dont hate the way a Dodge truck looks but I think the Fords are just so much better looking..

the Viper/Prowler owners have first choice to purchase the SRT-10 trucks, just like the 2003 Viper SRT-10 (which were gone in 3 days), then the dealers get a chance to mark up the leftovers, if any. not much chance you will see these, as often as Lightnings. they will be part of a Viper owners "collection"

I'm not scared

I've got into my 01 about as much as that Dodge will cost, and I like my truck way better, and it's way faster, perfectly streetable, and I can assure you my truck turns more heads than that Dodge will. No thanks

Check out this month's Truck Trend and they have good articles concerning the new Dodge truck as well as an article comparing our L to a Dakota R/T and also Toyota's "high performance" truck. Anyway, they are good articles, even if you just read them at the news stand and then put it back. (Which is what I did) Oh, and if you do a search on this topic, then I bet you would find about two pages worth of posts covering this topic.

FOR 50k plus I can buy MY 2003 L on xplan a few mods, and then put the EXTRA 20-25k that the dodge will cost down on a bigger house!! The L looks SO much better anyway.
