Need rear suspension help
Hey guys, I have an 01 Lightning. I did 2" Belltech shackles when I got it last year. About 2 months ago I did the Chassis tech 3/4 drop. I did adjustable end links form So Cal in the rear along with shorter ones up front. Had it aligned and everything was good except I had a loud rocking banging sound in the rear end coming down driveways or hitting bumps. I couldn't find anything hitting but finally noticed I could duplicate it if I shook the bed/whole truck from side to side.
I finally took it to my dealer and they said it was normal and it was axle play. This was one of the techs who actually owns an L. I went back a couple of days later and shook one of the ones on their lot and it didn't do it. Made another appointment and took it back. They thought it was the driver's side leaf spring? I disagreed but they ordered it. After two weeks they put it on along with clamps on the front of the springs and the noise went away mostly.
Now the weird part. I only had it back for a week and a half before I took it in to that same dealership to have them do some paint work on the door and side of the bed (someone keyed my truck a couple of months ago &%#@#). Anyway, I got it back on Thursday. I went to drive away and my steering wheel was at about 1-2 o'clock. WTF? It didn't seem like it was pulling? I called the body shop back and they said they didn't touch the suspension. I took it to my alignment guy and he immediately noticed that the passenger side wheel was about 1/2" - 1" back in the wheel well vs. the driver's side. He said your truck is driving sideways.
I went home and pulled the wheels off. It was definitely off. I made an appointment to take it back to the dealer on Monday.
My question is how can this shift that much? It was perfect when it went to the body shop, they have it for 10 days and now it's off? I don't see any damage like they hit anything? Any insight?
Sorry this was so long but I know I can count on you guys for some oppinions.
Thanks, Jeff
