Detonation?
Detonation?
last night, while being naughty and racing (I won both times though!) at 130 after flooring it and hold it from 80 I thought I heard some detonation (clinking noise from the engine)... I know the sound cuz I had it a great deal with my super charged tahoe until I got it straightened out... Not sure that I heard it, so I let off, and reapplied the gas and did not hear it again... I know detonation in these engines is bad...
anyone have this problem? it was 78 and just under 100% humidity... really nasty... I have:
JDM intake
JDM flip chip (on street race program)
JDM 4lb
NGK TR6's gapped at 44
FT VB (not that this matter with this problem)
could I have been hearing things? it's hard to hear anything when the blower is whining so loud!
No check engine lights came on (they always did with my old tahoe when it did this) I do not have a scanner readily available to check for codes...

try to re-create the same situation, with very low fuel. if you think you hear it again. put some race gas, or one of the race gas mixtures, posted here, in the tank and try again. if you still hear it, it's probably not detonation
Safest thing to do is find a dyno that also monitors your a/f numbers. Don't get caught up in the HP/TQ numbers but do pay attention the the A/F numbers. If it looks lean send your chip in along with a copy of your A/F numbers for a re-burn.
