Have you ever had one of those days?

Today I probably should have stayed home. I lost my second F-1 in the last 30 days. The tire went down in a hurry, and couldn't get stopped before it went off the bead. Gone to tire heaven. I did save the rim.

It had a chunk cut out of it the size of a quarter. For those of you that know the area, I was parked in the ramp between the east and west 10 fwy, where the 710 ends. Not a good place.

On the way home with spare on the left rear, someone in front of me ran over and kicked up a heavy metal stake about 3' long. I dodged it the best I could, but it bounced under the truck, and wedged vertically in the left rear wheel well. It ripped out the wheel well plastic liner, and the left fender support rod. Along with the support rod, went part of the fiberglass fender.

Sounded bad, and showered sparks. Also dented the filler neck.

There is so much TRASH on the road out here. There is lots of metal to hit too.

Luckily my daughter and myself are home safe. My truck is too, although a little worse for wear.

Sorry to hear about what happened but like you said at least you and your daughter are home safe. Jersey isnt much better with trash on the roads. I was coming home from work the other day and there was an older f150 in the middle lane and i was in the fast lane. Out of the back of the bed of his truck comes one of those cement trowl things that they hold the cement on in thier hand while they are doing like brick work. That thing went flying and landed in the fast lane but luckily i was passed him by then and i wasnt in the lightning.

Yep Jay I agree there's a ton of crap on the freeways out here.

I was fortunate enough to lose one in a restaurant parking lot AFTER I had just exited the freeway (210) about 3 weeks ago.

Nothing like blowing $200 because of someone else's junk

DB I learned a long time ago that the road hazard policies that the tire retailers offer, is worth their weight in F-1's. When I had my 95 Cobra, I had the same thing happen. I ate $265 for a new tire.

Both these tires were covered by the road hazard policy. During the first 90 days they will replace them for free. I bought them at the end of March, and both were covered 100%.

After crawling under the truck, it appears that the damage to the fiberglass, caused by the departing support rod, is going to be hidden by the ground effects moulding. I just need to build a support and replace the rod.

Jay,
I feel your pain. I was heading out of town for a nice long enjoyable drive. Unfortunately the road out has a land fill just outside the city. So one should stay in the left lane untill you pass it or take the risk of hitting stuff that didn't make it to the dump.
Well I saw some junk up ahead in the right lane and moved to the left lane. Some Jerk decided I wasn going fast enough, so she passed me on the right and swerved in front of me when she saw the junk as well, but managed to run over some of it and a part of a tree limb in the process. And of course She kicked it up in the air just high enough to hit the hood on my L right in the front next to the crease line. The hood didn't take it well. Has a big dent.
The first and only scratch had to be a dent.....
Man I Feel your pain...

David

Man, it sounds like you used up all of your bad luck yesterday, today has to be better! I hate to think what COULD have happened with that metal stake.

Good luck Jay.

Angry I feel your pain too...

I can say that the highways in Maryland are getting pretty bad as well. Seems like everyday there is more trash and junk to avoid while driving.

I was unfortunate enough to scrape the side of my L slightly not too long ago because of some scrap metal crossing two lanes of traffic.

TRASH!

Dang everyone talking about blowing out tires from roofing nails, running over sheet metal and such. That is crazy.
The only thing that you will run over, over here in East Texas is empty beer cans.

Tim, I hope you're right. Just in case, I'm going to fire up the old 67' Stang and drive it today. Besides, I dont have the tire replaced yet. They had to order it.

Someone on this board said "Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you". Yesterday, the Bear had a five course meal courtesy of Jay Lincoln. LOL

Today will be better!

Nope, not for me anyways. I always stop to pick them up if I can. Those things will hiss and jump at you. I always carry my gun with me now.
My favorite animal to pick up is those logger-head turtles. I picked one up a couple weeks ago and it weighed around 50-60 lbs.
You might be a redneck if..........

J.D.

yeah, if I'm not going to kill myself in the process, I look out for the snakes and stuff on the road. Especially out on desert dirt bike rides where the tortises (torti?) cruise the trails..
