(off topic) Just drove 03' Cobra

Well, it's official, I'm in love!! Awesome car, tons of power, and the six speed just brings back old memories. Too bad it was the ugly Sonic Blue color, but oh well, I could live with it. By looking at the sticker, it was going for $34k and change.... And damn, that engine is HUGE! Now, to just find someone to buy my Lightning from me!!!!

I want one really bad also, but I need something to pull my boat. I guess I'll have to stick with the lightning. Hopefully one day Ford will put the six speed in the lightning.

news

dealers now have an optional 5k add on. Naturally if the dealer tried to charge me i would go to another one, but my buddy was looking at a GT yesterday and I was talking to the salesman. I was looking at the True Blue Lightning and told him how I had a 2000. We got talking about the new cobra and he said yeah, not bad for 40k. I told him i thought they were 35k. He said there is an add on now. Supply and demand. They had a nice Saleen there. Saw a boss f150 at another dealership. All show and no go, but they do look sharp. I like the hood.

By the way....a 6 speed in a lightning.......i think you would be disappointed.

By the way again, that ugly sonic blue(which I happen to like) will be replaced true blue on the lightnings next year.

Marcus,
I know what you mean. My truck is going up for sale soon. I drove a 03 Cobra Convert in April. Wasn't enough to make me sell the L. Then I did a evaluation drive on a new pre-production Mach 1 a few days ago and loved it.

The shaker does shake and the car was alot of fun to drive. I'm trying to keep the L and get the Mach. Not looking good for the L at this time.

So you think every dealer is going to stick them at 40k and they will be hard to find next summer?

I doubt that, I was told they are making 12,000 of the '03 cobra's and only around 4,000 of the '03 L's. Ford knows the new cobra will be popular, and they will be ready to meet the demand.

Sakino one more thing, they are coming out this summer. They are already starting to pop up at dealers.

The markup is not a Ford specific. I was at the local SVT dealer 2 months ago to order some wheel locks and asked when they would have some 03 cobras. They had 7 on the way and only 2 were spoken for. I asked about the markup and they weren't doing that.

ohh well out of my price range. I will just go for a used lightning, or maybe save up another long year.

the stick would be so long, it would take a day and a half to shift the thing. i dont think anyone could shift a pickup as fast as the auto in our truck shifts.

Thinking...

Called my dealer that I used to work for...says that he would sell me an 03 Cobra the same way I got my L....A -Plan . Said it should be around $30-$31K. Im hoping...but not holding my breath. He will sell anything on A-plan if he can...great guy. Anyone heard of A-plan on the 03 Cobra's?

Wait until November, there'll be '03 Cobras sitting on lots, languishing. Especially anyplace where there's a real WINTER. Right now they're the new kid on the block, and the demand is artificially high. The first run was smaller, the remainder of that 12k aren't going to hit lots until later in the year.

Also, I'm betting you see some at Carmax and other used lots soon therafter. Lots of people THINK they want 400 horsepower. Some people realize they can't HANDLE 400 horsepower. That's where you come swooping in, avoid the gas guzzler tax, and drive that car like God and Henry Ford intended!

The best idea for a manual shift Lightning is to have paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Rode in a Ferrari 360 Spyder with that option, and it worked wonderfully.

As for dealers in this area, 03 Cobra's are starting around $35,700 - sticker. Absolutely no one will give me X-plan. If I could get that, then I would be home free. I just have a hard time paying MSRP for something. Probably just a better idea to wait until August or September to purchase. I had a decent deal on my truck - purchased it Nov. 3 of 1999. The dealer wanted to get rid of it because winter was coming.
