Uhm... did the same thing to my whipple charger/NOS fed 96 Tahoe a year and half ago...

yes, a tahoe... I wasn't racing though... just farting around... nothing too serious... I just totally blew the top of my intake manifold to smithereens... put 4 nice UPWARD dents in my hood... scare the **** out of me and people around... there were people on the sidewalks taking cover! I was 40 miles from hose, so the flatbed bill to take it home suct... that was enough to keep me away from NOS for good... or until I make enough money to buy new engines when needed...

And before you ask, I haul a lot of SCUBA tanks around and ship/import them

Nah, there are 50-state legal (yes even out there in smoggy CA) nitrous kits.

Thanks to all who responded!

As most of you can tell buy my sign on name, I am a firefighter and in 12 years have been exposed to the results of an ill timed race on the street. I have raced all my cars at the track and do not believe in an all out street race. In my cases the race lasted about an 1/8 th mile or less on a safe stretch of road that looked as it was built for an occassional race. This was not a weaving in an out of traffic nightmare.
I do not go out and search these races out, it just happens that if I am in a situation to open the truck up for a short burst I usually do it even if there is no one prompting me to race. I just like to feel the power to remind me of why I spent the money, and to put a smile on my face.

50 state legal

I doubt that. They may be legal to have installed, but I am certain they are illegal to use on the roads.

Just thought you guys should put into account that a lot of the rice you all "kill" are not made to race in straight lines not that this one was not or anything but IVe seen you guys brag about killin wrx's and I just think its funny.
Mr. Chevyeater,
I live in SJ and you forget one thing about racing thru the twisties. The L is:
1. Very quick in short bursts. Which if you start in a straight line means that the L is in front of you by the 1st turn.
2. The L is and can be made to be V E R Y W I D E.
Around a road course going for a TIME you have the advantage, but in a race the torque off the line and corners goes to the L.
Going fast thru the twisties and racing thru the twisties (which is a bad idea) are two different things.
