Took the L to the dragstrip on Friday(HELP!)
Took the L to the dragstrip on Friday(HELP!)
Kindof dissapointed but maybe someone has some tips on stopping the wheelspin so I can launch decently. First few runs were terrible......14.xx's My last two runs of the night it was 71 degrees and i pulled a 13.92 and 13.93 at 98.xx mph on both. Wheelspin was not as bad on those two but i was feathering the throttle off the line. I tried all night launching from different rpm's and idle and I still cant figure it out for the life of me. Was running 19 psi in the rear on F1's. My 60 foots were a 2.18 on the last two runs.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong or do I just have a slow L?? I know with the wheelspin and not being able to floor it till the top end of first that I can do better.
BTW i swear there were people dragging water up to almost where you stage.....i doubt that helped matters.

My first time out netted 1.90 sixty foot times on F-1's with 32 psi. It has a lot to do with the track condition and prep.
You're doing the right thing rolling into the throttle, you can't just nail it, no matter what track you're at. What worked for me, and seems to work for a lot of us is, drive around the bleach box, do a burnout to get the tires hot, shift to nuetral and rev the engine a couple of times. Stage shallow, hold the brake and bring the engine up to 1100 RPM's in drive, and when the third yellow light comes on, let off the brake letting the truck start to roll and THEN mash the gas pedal quickly to the floor (notice I didn't say stomp).
If the track will allow, you can and will improve those sixty foot times which will improve your overall time. Good luck!

Unless you have some serious track prep, wheelspin with F-1's will be the norm. 19 psi is too low for F-1's. At that pressure they have a tendency to cup in the middle of the tire. You might have better luck in the 26-30 lbs range.
Unless the track is real sticky, you might have better luck leaving just above idle, and driving into the throttle quickly. If you mash the throttle, you will surely spin.
A set of ET Streets will help, as will some type of traction bar.

I think every track is different becuase when i tried running 26+psi the best I managed was 2.1,13.8...I dropped it too 18/9 psi and bam got a 2.0,13.6/7...by the way my track is the probably the worst you can find(Moroso) so I wouldn't set it as an example.
This one seemed pretty bad but im no expert. I got my best two times stalling it to about 1500 on launch. The only problem I have is that when that tree starts going down, i loose my cool and forget what trick I was going to try.

As soon as you see the third yellow light come on let off the brake and start into the throttle after a short roll.

your truck
Is your truck stock. That will also make a difference on your times. What your mods are will affect your 60ft times. Chickenears basically took the words out of my mouth. Went up on a wednesday night, managed a best 14.2 with 2.5 60ft times. Went up two days later with similar conditions and ran a best 13.6 with 2.1 60ft times. Needless to say launch technique is critical, but as the old saying goes, practice makes perfect. Now if it ever stops raining at my track......
it does this...
makes anyone not paying attention notice there is a 5000lb pickup truck about to smoke a snot nose's camaro or mustang. Or pork fried rice mobile!!!
Or...it has something to do with making sure the fluid is circulated after the burnout or something. Maybe Gregg can chime in here? Jim....Sal.....you guys out there?
