Question what size 20" tires?

Well I finally got to talk to some one at American Racing and they do make a 20/10 special order Torque Thrust 5 lug (as shown on page 182 of Truckin/july 2002).

Now what size tire and what brand?

I have used www.eunos.com/tirecalc/ to get the closest to the OE tire size, attempting to reduce speedometer error.

OE=295/45/18=28.5=no error sidewall 5.2

275/40/20=28.7=+0.7% slower sidewall 4.3

305/35/20=28.4=-0.2% fast sidewall 4.2

Are any of you guys runnng either one of these size tires and if so, what do you think about them, brand, cost, etc.

Any suggestions other than these sizes?

I used both of those sizes. The 275's are really cheap and you can play alot more for less money... Traction was about the same on either....

I'm patiently waiting on a set of 295/40ZR20 Pirelli Scorpions to replace my current Dunlops. I've considered different sizes, but this size looks best on my truck IMO.

Hi Sixpipes ! How did you like those Dunlops for wear&handling ? I had them on my SC T-Bird were good on the car!

I got about 30K out of the Dunlops, which is actually pretty good for me. That covers a number of burnouts, an SVT On Track and a couple of autocross events.

I'm going with the Pirellis to get better wear. Compound is 340 I think opposed to the Dunlop's 280.

I'm looking at the Nitto 404s 305/40/20s. 29.6 diameter. I guess I'll have to get a reburn on the chip and maybe trade to 4.10s. $271 per at http://www.discounttiredirect.com/discount.splash.html

Free shipping

Sorry if I just muddied things up.:o

My Boyd Coddington Smoothie 2's Size 20x10 are mounted on Dunlope Sport Sp9000 size 295/40/20. I havent had a problem and i think that size tire is best for the 20's.

seniorchief,

What ever tire you get stay away from the BFGoodrich KDW's. I have the 295/40/20 tires and in 6 months they are already junk. They grip really great but they ware out like toilet paper. I think I might take sixpipes' advice and try the Pirelli's next.

I had better results with the older BFG Comp TAs. I think they have 295/40/20s. Pirellis are good, too.

Couldn't wait until August for the Pirellis so I am going with the 305/40ZR20 Nittos. I'll post a pic this weekend.

You wouldn't think there would be much difference in size between a 295/40ZR20 and a 305/40ZR20 would you? Looks like I have some rubbing problems on the front. Just wide enough to contact the fender well when you're driving stupid. Going out now to get more feedback, but a lowered vehicle and the Nitto 305s could be not-so-good.
