An outsiders view..

i hate to beat the dead horse some more.. but heres my thoughts on this "tuner wars" subject..

i do not own a lightning, but i plan on purchasing one very soon.

i currently own a 2001 F350 Dually CrewCab Diesel..

i visit the www.ford-diesel.com forums alot, and i think you guys should check them out as well.. everyone runs different setups, and no one cares who runs what, they just add their opinions on which products they use instead of bashing each other. here is a great example:

http://forums.ford-diesel.com/ubbthr...b=5&o=&fpart=1

no bashing because buddy runs x and other buddy runs y..

i think if this place were like this, it could easily be the quality of site ford-diesel is.. personally i think these "tuner wars" are pathetic, and bashing each other is a great way to lose business.

anyways, im done ranting now.

ps: i have nothing to do with ford-diesel.com and am not trying to promote it. hopefully you guys can take some lessons from the example thread and keep this place civil.. it would be a lot nicer place if everyone got along.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but Ford-Diesel has the same kinds of problems that we have over here. I am sure that Jason Lester (he runs the place) would be the first to acknowledge that. One referenced thread simple cannot portray all that goes on with a site.

The reality is that when you get a large enough and diverse enough group of passionate people, some of whom have egos and testosterone levels that exceed their Lightning engine's displacement, in an environment that they feel allows for a certain amount of anonymity, you are going to have clashes.

All we can ask as moderators, at this point, is for people to ignore inflammatory posts, and they will hopefully fade away. There will always be an element of "newbie" posters that have knowledge beyond their time on this (or any) forum. The best approach is to pretend they aren't there...an approach that is the best action for the entire forum.

BTW, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Jason and Ford-Diesel.com ... we started our sites about the same time, have similar growth paths and are now about the same size.

Yes, i have seen a few threads over there like that.. however for the most part it is like the thread i posted.. i think if everyone would just post their experience of the products THEY have, and not "i hear chip x is crap.." everyone would walk away feeling they have actually gained something instead of reading constant bashes.. i think it would accomplish more. i also have tremendous respect for both of your sites, i visit them both daily and have gained alot of good information from both. I'm just trying to show some light on what can be gained if it stays civil, and b.s.-less.. not trying to offend anyone.

I want to preface this by saying I am for bashing, or anything along those lines. But if someone has a bad experience with a product, I want to know about it. If 5 people run amazing times with a tuner, and 20 people have awful experiences, I want to know about it before I begin investing my money. I want to have my truck for a long time, maybe not forever, but a long time. I want to make it faster, but not at the expense of longevity. I cannot dedicate hours a day to ensuring my truck runs properly, if I order something, I want to bolt it on, and be done with it. If a piece made specifically for our application has to be adjusted before it can be installed, I want to know, so that I won't waste my money. Tuners spend 40 or 60 or 80 hours a week designing testing and fine tuning products for these beasts, if they can't get it right, they shouldn't be selling them.

Sorry for the long post, just my .02 on the subject, especially after having to modify to many mods already...

The major problem with this topic is the definition of "bashing". Some people seem to feel that if a real problem with a product or company is pointed out; or, if an opinion that is different from theirs is expressed, they or their Tuner have been maligned in some way. They have to retaliate. Things escalate from there.

I want to hear both the good and bad of things so that I can make an informed decision toward a purchase or modification. I shouldn't have to walk blindly into a bad situation, if there are people that have been there ahead of me and can help me avoid it. It's called brotherhood.

Since most of the people on this site are into speed. We are a little different from the average truck owners in personality. We are competitive people. We want to be faster than the next guy. We want our trucks to be the most reliable. We also tend to think that the decisions we make are the best ones and are very passionate about them. This is going to present us with more social problems than the average board has to deal with. We seem to work most of them out though. That is why this board is a little more than just a forum. It's very much a community. Maybe even a family.

Once again....... Just my opinion. 2 cents would probably be a rip-off
