Question Rtkilla

You still running those Dunlop 9000s? How do/did you like 'em? They seem kinda pricey (Discount quoted $360-something apiece), but I don't mind spending a little extra $$$ to get some 20" tires that are actually worth a damn.

check tire rack, they should only be 300 on there and maybe 200 on discount if your lucky. I like them and there good tired, but I would rather have the BF goodrich G-force tires in a 295/40/20

Thanks, man. I'll do some digging on those BFGs and see what I can find. I appreciate the quick help.

For anyone else that's looking, here are some links to the TireRack comments:
BFG:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/bfg/bfg_gforce_kdw.jsp
Dunlop 9000:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/dunlop/du_s9000.jsp

From what I can tell, it looks like the BFG is a better handling tire; you just have to make some sacrifices in the "comfort" area. If I get some time today, I'll get with Discount and see how their prices compare.

I wouldn't worry about comfort that much, you'll never notice it.

RobG has these tires and pretty much the same suspension setup as me with the same shocks and all and I couldn't really tell that much from mine to his. When my Dunlops wear out, its BFG's for me.

What's up with the 9" rims vs. 9.5" rims? Yours are 20s, so I'm guessing they're 9". I've heard from a few people (and saw it on this board somewhere recently) that you shouldn't be running any less than a 10" rim with 40-series 20" tires. Is that just one of those "in a perfect world" scenarios, or did you do something different?

As much as I like the 20x10 Boyd HotRods, I don't think I can swing the $4Gs (+) they'd cost me.

I have the 20x9's and they work fine with my tires and rims. I think the replicas are really 9.5 inch but they just say 9 inch on them. It all depends on where you measure it at. I'm not sure so check, but mine work ok.

Mine werent $4g's+ mine were $3200. That was the rims Boyd Coddington Smoothie 2 20x10 mounted and balanced on Dunlope Sport Sp9000 295/40/20's. See the sig for a pic and check the gallery for some more pics. Im just waiting to get my ground force FRPP 1/2 drop on my truck and then the rims will look even better and bigger. Im not into the dropped truck look but i saw the 1/2 drop on Vinnie's truck at a recent meet and liked it alot. The truck doesnt even look dropped still has the rake look nose down @$$ end up. Just makes the rims fill up the wheel wells more and make them look bigger.

Vin-
Was the price on their website comparable to what you paid? The Smoothies showed to be around $520 or so and the HotRods were $680 (OUCH!!!). As much as I'd LOVE to have these, it's hard to justify that money when replica 20s go for just over a grand for all four. Besides, with "future plans" to take into consideration within the next 6-8 months (ie: ring and a house downpayment), my decision is even harder. Of course, I could always use the "get it now before she won't let you" logic take over!

BTW-
Just had the FRPP drop, PSP Cal-Tracs, and Bilstein shocks put on yesterday. The truck looks OUTSTANDING and will be even moreso with 20s.

Personally I would rather have chrome wheels them billet, there easier to take care of and they look better to me. I have billet racing wheels and there not good for people who drive there trucks daily and are not going to take good care of them ALL the time.

Yeah, Joe, I've thought about that, too. I had chrome wheels on my Bronco and liked them, but I still hated polishing them with Mothers or whatever every 3 or 4 months. Hell, those were only 15"ers, too...I can't imagine how long it'd take to do 20s. I'm seriously leaning towards the "silver" replica 20s; I'm just a big fan of the stock look of our trucks. More than anything now, I'm just looking for an easy-to-maintain wheel that fills out the wheelwells a little more. Nothing to polish, no visible waterspots, etc...just a little wax every now and again and they're good to go. Those Gen1 owners have it too easy...stock tires/wheels and a slight drop and they look DAMN good.

Just talked to Discount Tire. They wanted $353 a tire for the BFGs, but I BS'ed down enough to make it comparable to the time/effort/$$$ of an online order. Time to order the rims and I'll be set.

Just ordered my rims from that WheelReplica place in Katy. They should be in by Wednesday. Hopefully, I'll have some time next Saturday to get them mounted. Keeping my fingers crossed....
