Question Mods

Well, I have a been a long time "lurker', few time poster. After seeing the latest blown motor thread, my question is this:

What percent of people are truely having trouble with the L after adding a chip/pulley combo, who regrets it?

I am still stock, due to the fact, if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have luck at all. Everyhting modified I have ever owned has took a turn for the worse. Just curious, I know there is always a risk with moding, but actually how much of one?

I d/k the percentage of 'blown' motors in the total realm of Lightning trucks but I would think it is very small. It is 'normal' for an owner with a catastrophic eng. problem to complain and and, in so doing, to inform the rest of us. I don't blame them---I would too but I still think it is a very small percentage of the total L production.

Mine is a moderate-to-highly modded L and, so far, no problems (fingers crossed).

If you have an eng. that was properly put togeather, if you get mods that 'compliment' each other, if you make sure your tuner takes all your eng. mods into consideration(even better if you can visit him and dyno-tune) as he tunes your chip, if you verify your chip tune with an a/f ratio dyno, if you keep from running at high rpm/high speed for extended(our chips and mods are normally to be used in short bursts of torque--1/4 mile and daily driving) periods of time(limit the time you are in a 'boost' condition), if you use 91+ quality gas, if you use a synthetic oil(from 4,000 miles on..), if you use the proper warm-up procedure etc., etc.; then you will probably be alright......................

I have some mods and no problems thus far.

I am very happy at the current time with my performance/money spent ratio... I still haven't visited a track yet, but have had a few fun experiences from stop lights, and only lost once, knowingly however, to a viper... Even took a Z06, course it was just up to 60 or so, then we had to stop at the next light...

Anyhow, I wouldn't go back to stock unless someone provided 100% evidence that I was going to blow my engine... I LOVE my mods and the acceleration that comes wtih them. It's very addicting...

fyi, I have a chip, filter, 4# pulley, valve body, tr6 plugs...
