Question Stock WS6 vs Stock L

Friend of mine, who is constantly trying to prove his 0-60 time in every stop light with a WS6 is always braging about how fast his car is and how badly he'd beat me if i were to race him in my 2002 L. I have not raced him since the L only has 3000 miles on it but he's really starting to get on my nerves. I've been to the race tack before in phoenix and seen a couple run. I believe bone stock they can run in the mid 13's but not shure. How fast are the new L's and do you think I can beat him? I do have some race experience with my old 2000 L. My fastest time in the old L was a 14.02 mph. I also believe the new 2002 L's can be in the mid 13's. What do you guys think.

Laters,

Couple of things to factor in. What year WS6? If it's a 98-00, you can safely average a 13.5 (with good driver...is the car an A4 or M6?). If it's an '01-'02, with the right driver, he'll be in the low 13s. Some factory freaks are hitting high 12s out of the box. Does he have any mods? These cars are put into the 12s with very simple bolt ons.

One way to find out.....go for it!!!

Good luck.

Dan

well i raced my uncles SS at the track, practically the same as the WS6, and I would always beat him off the line, but he would start to catch up as we approach 80 mph. My best was 13.43 @ 101, which was better than his best time. So I say that if you can get traction, you will beat him up until 70-80 mph.

It is an 01 i believe with no mods. I am not sure if it is an A4 or an M6. But i guess worst case without bolt ons you think they can average low 13's uh. Guess theres only one way to find out. Put them to the test. When we get it on i will respond with the outcome.

One of my friends has a '02 WS6. Out of the box he ran a 12.86@108. He's a darn good driver though, this was a M6 car. Really depends on the driving, I guess. Race him and find out! (I couldn't beat my friend b4, but now I got a 4# pulley, joke may be on him next time at the track, unless he swaps cams, in which case I'm never beating him... With exhaust, cam, and lid, WS6s go through the traps at 117 with a competent driver.)

For what its worth, I ran a 13.27 stock with a 1.90 60ft time in my '02 L. Great track though, its usually very sticky so I didn't have to hold back at all.

Here in Phoenix where the tracks suck, i've raced quite a few LS1s.

2002 stock, auto Vette was running 13.7's all night.
2002 Z28 with "free" and "other basic mods", auto, 13.5 best.
2000 Firebird 6-speed, mid 14's best.
2001 Camaro SS, auto, 13.7's all night.

I ran a best of 13.3 that night (95 degrees). There were stock L's there, i think the best he ran was a 14.0x, almost in the 13's stock! Keep in mind weather and track, but that should give you a good idea of what they're running comparatively. Plus any forced induction vehicle runs worse in the heat...

i own a 1999 SS and ran against a 99 lightning at the track in Bristol, Tn. i ran a 12.7@109 with very simple mods done. my SS just had a MTI induction lid and a revised hypertech program, along with exhaust. also just bought a 2002 hd f-150 and cant wait to tear into it.

My '02 with a K&N and the "airbox moid" turned
13.51 ...

Just the fact that now I am at least in the same
time frame as most of the camaro's firebird's and
Vette's is amazing.

I guess the half second increase was worth all
the cash that I dropped. But I did expect to do
at least 12's so I am still working on it ... Been
to the track twice since I got back from N.J.

The truck FEELS strong, so it must be my driving
holding me back ...
