Isn't the pcv valve already like a check valve? Take it off and try blowing backwards through it. I'm don't think air is blowing through the pcv and back out the "straw" on the driverside under boost. Just my .02. So far at first I drained allot of oil out of the bowl. Now it seems too have slowed down.

Me too!

I did essentially the same thing. Here's a couple of notes on it:

the PCV tubing is 3/8" OD
I used an air/water filter from Home Depot/Lowes with 3/8NPT in/out.

3/8" ID tubing ->3/8 NPT fitting for filter out (to intake), use the stock 3/8" to 5/8 converter that is already on the tubing.

3/8" ID ->3/8NPT 90 degree fitting for filter in, cut the hose a bit (line it up, then use some tubing and hose clamps to tighten everything down.

So total flow is:

Stock PCV line cut -> 3/8 ID line -> 3/8ID 3/8NPT 90 -> filter -> 3/8 NPT 3/8 ID ->stock 3/8 to 5/8 -> intake

total cost is around $30

Yes the PCV valve is like a check but its not any good. I did take it out and you can blow both ways. It is a piece of junk.

Here's a dumb question:

What are the benefits of keeping this oil out of the intake?

Here's another way of asking:
What are the drawbacks of allowing this oil in the intake?

Before I installed the check valve above my PCV I was using about a 1/2 a quart of oil every 3000 miles. Now I use 0.

PCV is good

The reason you don't want oil in your intake is it will clog up your intercooler and intake path. (aka it's icky)

The reason you don't want a breather cap is because the PCV system is designed to constantly move air through the crankcase. a breather will let the air just sit there for the majority of the time.

Spike: As well as coating the intercooler, the unwanted oil may/probably dilutes the a/f ratio leading to detonation possabilities .

Jeff, my filter did the same thing. When I first installed it, I got a lot of oil, while it was draining the hoses. Now I don't get as much.

Oil will do ac couple of things. It does contribute to detonation, if htere is enough. It will also foul the plugs and the intercooler core. I think it was Herb, who removed his IC, and found it was seriously coated with oil. I was thinking of a way to clear the system w/o disasembling the top half of the motor.

Maybe a fogger nozzle, injecting small amounts to toluene?

This check valve allows the pressure to be released out of the pass. side valve cover but will not let pressure in when the flow reverses. Just some food for thought.
Tell us more about this check valve fix? Part? Where? How much, etc. Sounds like a much better, cleaner solution than this compressor sight glass.
