How did you break your *L* in, and how does it run stock in the 1/4 mile?
Hey guys, thanks for answering all of my previous questions that i've posted to this board. Out of curiosity, how did many of you guys choose to break in your Lightning? Did you guys hammer it from day one, or did you baby it for a while during break in? Also, what did your trucks run stock in the 1/4 mile? I am currently breaking my Lightning in rather hard. I just don't understand how you guys can resist the temptation and baby it during break in. My truck see's WOT at least twice or 3 times a day. I have 1490 miles on it now, and will probably do my first oil and filter change in about 500 miles.
I REALLY babied it for the first 500 miles, did my first oil change at 700 miles, second at 2500, and i took the L to the track at about 3700 miles. My time was...
React---- .877

1/8 MPH-- 82.32

I DIDN'T BABY IT
I didn't baby my truck. I beat on it right out of the dealers lot onto the highway it was great.
I changed my oil @800 miles to full synthetic mobil 1 5-30 no marbles, now I got 3000k no problems except moister in the cargo lights after a car wash. I have not made it to the track it always seems top rain or I am working. I don't think I will make it there stock I am planning on a JDM stage one and a 4# lower very soon and even then I wont run it until it gets cool again.
I feel there is no reason to run in the hot weather I want to know what it runs when it will do the best, why beat the truck in the hot weather it I don't have to.
Sorry for the long post but nightr shift is boring...

I drove it like I owned it. Changed oil to 5-30 Mobil 1 at 1500 mi.
Went to the track at 3-4k and ran 13.3 w/no mods. It's a daily driver with 12k on it now and a 4# pulley and chip. Time to check the new times.

Drove it hard new, raced it at 370 miles and ran 13.8-9 in very humid 90 degree air.
With a chip and pro m + et streets she ran 12.79 108.97 at 700 ft above sea level.
Never had any motor or tranny problems up to 29.9k but tore her down for future and present mods and drove her hard after 20 miles and she screams.
Changed to mobile 1 at 500 miles on original motor and will do the same with the built motor.

I got on it occasionally for the first 800 miles (maybe once a day or so). I changed oil at 2000. Went to the track at 3000 and turned 13.7@100. At 5000 miles I dropped in a K&N and went back to the track to turn a 13.5@101. She's gonna turn 6000 today and get the second oil change this weekend sometime.
