Part # 33-2140-1 This is the square air box filter. I assume the 01 and 02 are the same.

Try part # 33-2140-1. This should be the correct one

I ordered from Summit.

I got mine at a farm & fleet store, but the # is 33-2140.... without the trailing -1. Works great.

The -1 is for the 2001 and 2002 models.... K&N warns that the filter for a 99-00 model will fit BUT LEAKS AIR (read: dirt) around the seal at the top. The filters are the exact same only the -1 comes with a foam gasket to go on the top lip of the air box.

This has been brought up tons of times check out the search and you will find many debates on it.

K&N drop in

I got the K&N drop in today and I decided that I will wait for AFE to make one for the Lightning. I looked at that wana-be seal that is supposed to stick to the inside of the air filter box and said forget it. If K&N can't make the thickness of their filter thick enough to make a seal in the box than it's not for me. Besides, the AFE seemed to flow a little better when compared with the K&N. I bought the K&N at Pick-up's Plus and they had a display with a ping-pong ball in a tube and a fan in a box with a square hole in it so you could drop in different filters. Well, The AFE flowed best with the ping-pong ball pushed all the way to the top of the tube. The K&N pushed it up almost to the top.
Now all I have to do is wait for AFE to make a filter for the Lightning. Also, looking at the AFE filter on display, you won't have to put a gasket between the air fulter lid and the filter to get a good seal. Dirt is bad.

Actually the gasket on the K&N is denser/harder to clip the cover over than the stock one on my airbox. Aint no way anything is getting in around it...

The add-on gasket that came with my K&N was the wrong size, so I left it off. Got a good seal anyway. Can't help but wonder why K&N includes it?

Mecca, some places sell the older K&N models for the 99-00 trucks for less than the 01-02.The only difference is a small rib on the top.Shave it off with an exacto knife and it will fit just like the later model.

Umm, so should I be taking out the one I have since it's the earlier model? It was really hard to get the box back on with it as is, and it appears to have a good seal.
