Question Racing rims?

New to the drag world and I was just wondering what rim is good for slicks, where to get them, what size to get, etc...? Also if possible could you give me a couple options if there is that for price comparison reasons? Thanks
Dan

I am new to racing the Lightning (at a track) and have started to get my "kit" in order. There are a lot of combinations out there; the first is what size rim you want to run. You can get an 18" drag radial but it seems they do not get the bite a slick or a DOT slick gets. A 15" rim gives you all kinds of tire options but only certain rim designs will work and you have to grind the rear calipers some.

Hoosier has just come out with a slick and a DOT tire in a 16x28 size. MT has street ets but they are only 26" tall and I personally wanted a taller tire to take advantage of a little more sidewall wrinkle. MT is said to be coming out with a taller version in the near future.

I just got a set of Hoosier DOT quicktime pro's. They are 14.5 x 28 x 16. The actual contact patch measures 12 inches; significantly wider than the ET's or non-dot hoosiers. They were $175each.

As for rims I am trying to find something with the backspacing I want. The stock backspacing is approx. 5.5". A number of the aftermarket rims are 4.5 and I would like to find something that is 5-5 -6.0 to keep things tucked in a little better. Bogart is apparently trying some 16's with JL and if they work they said they would be able to do a number of width and backspace combo's. I hope they work out; I've bought from 2 of the "big 3" and I would like to get the bogarts distributed by JL. I've always liked Bogarts even though Weld is right here in my home town.

Somebody else (ICULOKN??) did some Ulta's that looke good but I haven't found out what the backspacing on those are.

If you want to go the budget route I'm sure you can find a bunch of ET's that people are getting rid of in order to switch to the new 16's or 15's.

Thanks for the response. Where did you get the tires for @ 175? Also where to look for the 16 rims?

I ordered them from the Hoosier Distributor out of Texas. They supply OK, KS and maybe some other states. I think they were 175 could have been 189. I can get the info when I get home if you need.

I started a thread on the rims you may want to follow that.

Got to get to work so I can keep paying for all this fun .
