tranny temp.

Ok, installed the autometer single steering column pod for an tranny temp gauge, and installed the electrical sender in the Trans line coming from the front of the Trans case, which from what I believe is the outgoing before the coolers, in which lightning’s have two coolers, and I am seeing temps at the beginning of the day of 150 to 180 as the motor reaches temp and the ele fans have to come on to do their things for the motor, I may see temps of 190 to 210. I have heard 170 180 is normal but I am in the outgoing line with the hottest oil, how does this compare to what u have seen?????

Jim,
I put my sender right in the pan. I see temps around 170 when fully warmed. It takes it a while before it is completely warm.

Coming off the front cooler line is where the temps will be highest, that's coming straight from your converter, the temps you're seeing are fine for there. A more convenient place is to take out the diagnostic pipe plug on the driver's side and put it there, the tap is already drilled for a 1/8 NPT thread, but the temps there will be cooler. The thing to remember is to get familier with what it normaly reads and react to any change, front cooler lines will be hotter, rear cooler lines colder and pan or diagnostic ports will be in between. I wouldn't do the pan but just because the port is easier and just as accurate.
