suggestion on truck?

Now lately I have been torn between a Lightning and a f-150 4x4. I am a teenager who will not be doing too much towing but is going to be wanting something to haul stuff to and from college. I might be towing a boat "ski boat malibu eschelon" to some lakes and a jet ski some times. My question is what truck do you think would be the best bet for me. my main concern with the Lightning is the gas, in college I will not have a ton of money to dump into high grade gas. I want a reliable truck that is going to get the job done and be fun to drive. what do you guys say would be the best?

Well, honestly, I wouldn't put anything but premium gas in ANYTHING that I owned. However, from my experience, the L is pretty good on gas, compared to some of the F-150 4x4's. The L is more than able to tow stuff. More than a few people tow their race cars with the L, so jetskis will be no problem at all.

If you have the cash, get the L. That's just my opinion. If you don't NEED a 4x4, the difference in gas mileage is minimal, and you'd be happier driving the L every day.

The lightning will get better mileage than the ski boat...

I wish I had those concerns when I was heading to college..

It depends most on the ramps that you will be launching from. I know of many lakes that a Lightning wouldn't be able to pull the boat out of the water. The wheels would spin and spin because of NO traction.

Buy the Lightning...You will never regret it. If you can afford the Lightning and you don't get one it will haunt you the rest of your life

let me see if I get this, you can afford a Lightining, a ski boat, jet ski and you are 'concerned' about being able to afford the gas?

get the 4WD for thousands cheaper purchase price over 'L' and it's better for slick boat ramps

tell dad to make you work once in a while as repayment for such a cushy life

your 'L' needs Premium Unl, putting it in a motor designed to run Reg Unl is not only a WASTE on $$$, foolish on it's own, but it can also return slightly worse performance and cause deposits to form. The ocatne rating is NOT a measure of fuel quality but rather a measure of the resistance of the fuel to 'detonate' or pre-ignite under the force/heat of high compression before the spark plug has a chance to set it off.

Thus spending an extra 25 cents a gallon on a 20 gallon fill up is like tossing $5 on the concrete and watching passersby scramble for it.

If you can't afford the gas, you can't afford the truck.

wow I did not expext to get accused of being a spoiled brat! for one thing my parents are divorced so my dad will do **** for me. for second the boat and jetskis are owned by friends. and third I have a job and probably make more money at 17 than most of you did. il probably get the 4x4 simply because it is a more versatile truck and every time I buy some thing that is "high" performance it back fires on me. thx to some of you for the advice and for the accusers, screw you.
