8 - 9 Lb Lower Pulleys. OH Boy, get yours...

Hey,

8- 9 lb pulleys are going to be available soon from Johnny Lightning.

A truck at WFC5 was running a 8-9 lb lower pulley only with stock internals. He was running low low 12's and I'm sure he was off the throttle (you can't run at the track in the 11's without a roll cage). He seems to be holding up well. Probably need our chips reburned, I would.

Seems like adding more Boost really does produce faster times. We used to think that 3-5 lb pulleys was our limit on the HP gain/heat issue, but JL always said the more boost , the more power.

On stock internals? I wouldn't rev it past 5200!
To each their own

That 8- 9 Lb pulley looked huge on the True blue truck at WFC5.

The trans. coolant lines have to be repositioned to get the pulley to fit in, not much of a problem to do.

It did look like a steering wheel down there..LOL

Going from a 4# to a 6# gives, what, 3 more HP and 9 more TQ? So i'm assuming going to an 8# will add up to an additional 1 HP and 5 TQ (maybe) over the 6#???

I have seen the Dyno Jet number comparisons between the 4 to 6 lbs pullies. The track results of the pullies seem better than the Dyno's. I don't know the dyno numbers between a 6 to 8 lb. But I have seen the track results with my own eyes.

This bring to mind a question I've yet to see addressed.

As a preface;
About 5 months ago, the #1 Ford tuner in the country (IMHO)
was here finalizing the program for the '03 Cobra. (he now works for Rousch).
They brought 2 iron 4V s/c Corba's and 1 iron 2V s/c GT.
Thru the 1/8 mile, the GT blew the 4V's away. The 4V's would pass it in the 1/4.
One of the reasons was pulley ratio's.
Colletti requires the SVT to wind at least 6250 rpms.
The 2V was limited around 5200.
The K-B units on these motors are only certified upto 14000 rpms.
As a result, the 4V's ran a 2:1 pulley while the GT used a 2.5:1 pulley, thereby making more boost.

So the question is, how fast can these Eatons spin without blowing up?
The larger the lower pulley the faster the s/c internals are turning.

I would be more concerned about the rods in the motor than the blower exploding

As stated before by many of the top dogs in the Ford 5.4 area.

The motors should be able to handle 18-20psi with all stock internals.

There are many stock motors that blew up with 0-6lbs of added boost. There are many trucks out there that have 6-10lbs of added boost and have been fine. What is safe? I guess that depends of your level of thinking. Nothing is for sure when it comes to racing. I would have no problem putting 8lbs of extra boost on a stock motor with a PROPERLY tuned chip and all the other bolt on safeguards.....

i would not even think of driving with extra boost now without a dyno tuned chip. just dont feel safe. but what else would you need for all the other safeguards? im getting a new tranny and a built botom end? what else is there?
