New L in New York
New L in New York
Hi everyone I finally got my 02 L. It sure was worth the wait. Even though I had to go to tenn to pick her up.I drove from ny to tenn about 720 miles. Got pulled over once for speeding in virginia. Because I wanted to get my truck before the salesman went home. They let me off with a warning when I explained my reason for pushing it over the limit. WHEW!!!!! I guess they were ford fans. Well I made it just in time to the dealer. And there she was right up front a brand spanky new white L. I couldn't wait to get my grubby mitts on her. So we went in and did the paperwork took about an hr. So here it was about 4 in the afternoon, I wasn't tired even though I just drove for 12 hrs. I decided to start driving back up north to my parents house in lancaster PA. about 600 or so miles. I was in L heaven cruising along I 81 about 65-70 trying to keep the rpms between 2000 and 2500. Now most people do around 80-85 on this road. I felt like Iwas standing still, but I didn't want to push to hard on the motor till it had a few hundred miles. So now I'am up to about 200 miles on the L and I bring it up to 3000 rpms for a few seconds. WOW!!!!! what a rush now I know why everyone loves these trucks. I couldn't have been happier at that moment except if I was getting. Sorry I'am getting off track. The best part is that I knew there is much more to come after I break her in and do some mods. Well now I'am up to 500 miles and I can't keep myself from hitting the go pedal. I love the way she takes off when someones on your tail and they don't know what happened. Well I finally made it to lancaster at 3 am put over 600 miles on my L and was a little tired after driving over 1300 miles in one day. All I can say it was worth every mile. Well now I'am home in ny have 850 miles on the L will change oil at 1000 miles. Now comes the questions does anyone know if ford puts the 5-20 synthetic blend in at the factory as thats what they recommend for the L. And can anyone recommend a good svt dealer for service when and if I need to bring it in. I have been reading a lot of posts about this marbles in a can syndrome and the clunky front end noise. So far so good no noises from engine or otherwise. One thing I did notice is that when you hit 80 mph on the highway the antenna makes a funny sound which resonates from under the dashboard can be confused with an engine noise. Well thats it for now sorry for such a long post. I will keep you posted on any problems or mods. thanks Dennis...............
JUST WAIT TILL IT GETS BROKE IN
Welcome SVT 2002! I picked up my silver 02 at the end of Feb. they had a brand new white one come on the same truck as mine. They left the white one sit outside for a couple of days as mine was pulled into the showroom since they knew I was very picky. Needless to say they parked the white one on a gravel lot in the back and it rained for two days. It looked terrible. But I know you would never let that happen to yours!
As far as the oil goes, I don't know what ford put in at the factory but when I changed my oil at 1000 miles I tried Mobile 1 synthetic 5W-30 and it began the piston slap right on startup. So I drained it and replaced the filter and oil with the Ford Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20 and it's doing fine now. I guess I'll stick with the ford stuff for awhile.
PS I used the Ford Motorcraft FL-820s filter from wal-mart I've heard from guys on here that it's one of the best for our trucks.
anyway HAVE FUN!

Hey svt 2002 Congrats on the new '02L! That's the one you found on eBay, right? Glad to hear it worked out so well. Nothing like a good road trip! I drove a mere 5 hours the day I picked mine up, but I know how much fun it is with the new L on that ride home
I took my Black '02L to the track the other day, here's a copy of my post, and what you have to look foreword to:
"I took my new 2002 Lightning to Englishtown NJ on Wednesday night. I met Lightning Ralph and we got to make our first run side by side. That was fun!
They just ran an NHRA event last weekend so the track was well prepared and the temps were around 58 F. The track was sticky! This was my first time at the track, 1121 miles. Broke the engine in properly and changed the oil at 232 miles and again at 530 miles. Had 1/3 tank fuel after I put in $20 of 100 octane unleaded race fuel.
My second run was half a tenth better than the first run I made.
No John Force burnout, just 2 dry hops, pulled up to the line and rolled on the throttle. Saw 10Lbs boost all the way down the track:
0.566 RT
1.999 sixty foot
8.599@81.68 1/8th
13.435@101.75MPH
WOW is all I can say. Better than I thought she would run and it weighed in at a hefty 4,884 pounds! The truck is all stock with just a K&N element in the stock airbox (not one of them big filters).
Looks like I got one of the "Good Ones" from SVT, piston slap and all!"

Thanks everyone for the replys. I was just out washing and waxing the L. I forgot to tell you the best part about my trip in my first post. I didn't tell my wife I was going to buy the L. I said I was going to pennsylvania to get my harley from my parents house. Boy was she surprised! Would like to here from other NY L's I live in Manhattan. So I have to keep her in the parking garage. But I don't let them park it. thanks again Dennis....
Congratulations Man! Best of Luck with it!!!!

Hey Dennis, Al and Andy!
We gotta do one of those rolling NYC meets (I think I mentioned it like a long time ago, but I'm sure you'll likes!)
It would be really cool if one of these nights we all met up in Manhattan... dumped my Crown Vic on the street somewhere and you guys dropped me off like by Times Square or any other famous landmark and have me take pictures as you guys would be passing by (go around a block and do it over again)
talk about quality pix... hehe... it would be like the Lightning tour of NYC or something... heh
