Angry Post Office lost my rims!

The United States Post Office lost my chrome rims in the mail!!! In March I ordered a set of 2001 L chrome replacements for my rims from The Wheel Exchange in North Carolina. They agreed to ship them to me USPS parcel post because I live in Alaska and UPS and FEDEX only ship 2nd Day Air. As you can imagine, 2nd Day Air on four 40 pound rims would have been crazy, but it was about $140 to ship them through the post office. Well, shipping by parcel post takes about 3-5 weeks to get to Alaska from the lower 48 because they throw the mail on a cargo ship out of Seattle instead of by plane. No problem anyway because we have snow until early May and I was gonna be out of town anyway. Well, when I got back in town in mid May and my rims weren't here yet I got kinda worried. I called up the WHeel Exchange to get the tracking numbers and after numerous calls they finally told me that they lost the tracking numbers! So, my chrome rims are three weeks overdue and they lost the tracking numbers! So, if my rims are not here by June 7th then I am calling to get my money back.... to include shipping!

Oh, and one other thing! They told me that they are all out of L rims so they can't even send me another set. But..... they are still advertising them on EBay for purchase.

I ordered wheels from a local wheel shop in Kansas City who ordered them from a company in North Carolina also. They claimed to have shipped them 2 1/2 weeks ago but lost the UPS tracking number.I will try to contact them this morning to see if it is the same company.Tim

Screw that, get your money back, unless they can prove you recieved them all that other stuff is basically there problem. If they don't have a set of rims to send, you're entitled to your money back, period. Go see your local Postmaster, there are laws about using the USPS that don't apply to private shippers and they're all on your side.

Talking Good Old Post Office

Why so quick to blame the post office????

You did request insurance on your shipment, didn't you? Why are you asking for a tracking number? If you insured them, then ask for the insurance number. Your supplier seems to have lost whatever proof they have that they even mailed them it seems. So, why so quick to blame the post office?
If you payed for insurance and the shipper can provide proof of mailing then you'll get paid for them. If they can't come up with an insurance slip, then what proof do they have that they ever shipped them? So, why so quick to blame the Post Office?
I hope your wheels so up and in good condition just as you should expect them. If not, I hope your shipper comes up with proper shipping documentation. If they didn't insure them and they don't show up, then there is no one to blame except the shipper for not covering their butts and the purchaser for not demanding insurance to be included.

I talked with the guy in charge of the shipping dept. at The Wheel Exchange and he told me that they were shipped because he had to make a special trip to the Post Office for me. They usually only ship UPS, but since I would not buy off of them unless they shipped USPS, they agreed to go out of their way for me. I suppose that they could be lieing to me, but that seems like an awful lot of hassle for them. I have been calling like twice daily to get status from them, and I know they are tired of hearing from me but that is just too bad! I don't see why they would charge my credit card, tell me they would ship to me, and then not go through with it. It is common sense that I wasn't just going to "not worry about a $1200 dollar set of rims" and chalk this one up to bad luck.

I did tell them I wanted insurance and if they don't show up then I will get my money back and look at another company. In the mean time I will continue to look forward to opening the mailbox every day and looking for a little pink slip from the postman.

As long as you made it clear to them that the deal is not complete until you see that pinkslip you should have a decent case. If they sent the rims, then its all on the post man. Having looked into logistics as a way of living, I would find it quite surprizing that your rims actually disappeared instead of stolen.

Part of an efficient shipping business or anythere of is the establishment of accountability and responsibility. When dealing with high value items things are usually well tracked for internal reasons as well as benefiting the end user.

That sucks though man. Good luck.
