Question ?????can A Chip Go Bad ?????

My brother has a completely stock 99 Lightning with just a chip and filter.

He took out his chip to go on a long trip to the lake he said he used it there to do a little running around town to do play around. Then took it out again to come home. Now he went to use it toninght and now it won't start with the chip he tried every way possible. cleaned it and even disconnected the battery what could be wrong can a chip just go bad???

It's a Diablo chip. If that helps any. We need some help..

Taking the chip in and out doesn't do anything but dammage the contacts on the PCM and or chip. They are designed to install and leave, removal and reinstall for a few reburns is one thing. He more than likely drug some shaving off and shorted the chip or worse yet the PCM.

Smile THANKS

For the info Andre!!! He only removed it twice because he gets alot better gas mileage without the chip.. Guess he will have to have it checked out. Didn't think only removing it twice would hurt I have heard of people reburning there chip at least 5 or 6 times before. Well I learn something new everyday thats why I read these boards.

Did he disconnect the battery before removing and before putting in the chip?

If for some reason he didn't disconnect the battery, it's possible to erase the program on the chip.
