Ngk Tr 5

I have a 4# lower, superchip dual, and a K&N panel with a butchered stock airbox. I installed TR 5s gapped at 0.040. It runs excellent. From what I've seen on the boards the TR5s are a popular choice.Someone who is supposed to be a "great one" said they were the wrong plugs and at the wrong gap. Is that the case? I know about Densos, just not there yet. Are these the wrong plugs at the wrong gap for my mods?

Thanks
Don

I think the TR 5s are the same heat range as our stock plugs. I believe that's what Sal said. Therefore, they would be too 'hot' for the mods(4 lber) you have. You may be fine because different engs. are less prone to detonate than others but I would be very vigilant and listen carefully to your eng.

Thanks, I heard that. I don't hear any funny noises and I still have the "quiet" stock mufflers. Is the TR6 the next colder? If so, I may plan to swap them just to be safe. What about the ones you are using-BR7efs? Will they be OK?

Just be careful

Many of the tuners and old pro's have stated on here that even a little detonation can really mess up the L's engines in previous posts.

Talking to others on this board, and two major tuners, witha 4lb'er you "should" run the TR6 (gapped at .040) or the Denso IT22 or IT24's (also gapped at .040)

I'm installing my 4lb pulley and tr6's this weekend... I don't have any road experience on this, just what I've read. I do know that I would be listening for detonation when the outside temp makes any major changes (especially if it gets cold)

Just be careful... if you here any clicking and feel any hesitation, get off the gas! Then go change your plugs.

Just my 2 cents

Hope everything works out.

safety first

Seeing as it's a borderline/opinionated/climate/tuner thing, maybe I should pick up some 6s to keep on hand. I really don't hear any pinging or other unusual noises, I don't have the stereo on much and I read 6s can foul with a lot of around town driving. I don't have a heavy foot. What's a guy to do. Hey, all, I really DO appreciate the input. Sounds like 5s will work but 6s might be more for insurance. I'm undecided. I think I'll order 6s seeing as I'm gonna have to check for tightness anyway before hitting the track. Don't know-I'm not convinced either way. Sound like a "6 on one hand/half dozen (or maybe 5) on the other" scenario. Anyway, still thanks folks.

Cool

Don,

When in Rome do as the Romans do.

The TR5's are perfect for your chip, pulley and filter combo. You are running a Superchip not the other chips. I would keep this in mind when people start throwing advice around.

If you run another chip then that's a different story.

Many of us have the 4# pulley running these plugs with no trouble. If you have detonation then you need a reburn NOT a colder plug. Detonation will take any plug out even the Denso's which nobody has the ***** to post about because they paid $90 for their plugs.

thanks

Getting to the point is sometimes missing here so thanks for the forwardness. And yes, I got the impression that 5s were fine but someone-not of this forum-said they were wrong-period, and gapped wrong. I told him wrong for him MAY not be wrong for me or someone else. I looked around a lot before getting these but it's nice to here from owners with like equipment. Thanks again. And to you 6 users, thanks to you too. All input appreciated. Cool thing is if I blow this bad boy 'cause of the plugs, now we'll have documented evidence that I don't listen very well. LOL

Chuck, BTW, your page was one I used to help decide. Helpful stuff. One day I'll go into the story of how dumb I am 'cause I don't think a b/bypass is 25.00 worth of merchandise-or how foolish I am to pay 23.00 vs 32.00 for spark plugs Se la vi.

Enjoy the weekend guys. Hope you're not working like me. Don't drink and drive. You'll only end up puking on the drivers side door.

Tr-5's

I have the same pulley, filter, line-mod, and the Superchip with a
VERY AGRESSIVE program, and the TR-5's are my plug of choice.
I am by far not an expert on these trucks, but I am very pleased with the performance. I have run my truck next to the concrete barrier, through tunnels next to the wall, and have tried to get it to detonate, with out any sucess. (Good listening areas)
I do run 94 octane fuel (Sunoco) as it is plentiful in this part of
Ohio.
To each his own is very good advice.

Talking

i'd have to say that the Denso's were the fanciest spark plugs, that i ever melted. kind of like a fine wine, thats going to end up in the same place as the budweiser you chase it with, or something
