Serious Trany problem

Hey, well I bought my truck last Nov. and this problem has happend about 25 times and happend the first time with only about 150 miles on it.

In a nutshell, the transmission will not disengage when comming to a stop and it will stall the truck. I then have to put it in neutral, crank it up, rev to about 3g's and drop it into drive and hope it doesnt stall. It will usually stall one time. Once i get going the shifting is really early and erratic.

I have takein it in 4 or 5 times and they have no clue, they say no codes have been thrown or anything.

To describe it better....imagine comming to a stop by applying the brakes in a manual trans car in 1st or 2nd gear without putting the clutch in. The car will buck then stall when you finally come to a stop. That is exactly what is happening to my truck.

I'm totally miffed, anyone have a clue?

I vividly remeber seeing an L on ebay and in the description the guy mentioned a major problem with the tranny that ford was trying to cover up. I will try to find that link again.

Thanks!

What would happen if you were to shift to neutral as you slow down, coming to a stop? Would it idle normally(a little higher than with it in drive)?

Just trying to narrow it down but I d/k exactly what is wrong.........

The lock-up for the converter is electronically controlled. This is also tied into the brake pedal so that it will unlock before you come to a stop (think of the locked converter like a clutch that it engaged, if you don't ungage it before you stop, you will kill the engine).

Thus, I believe you are having an electrical problem, not a transmission problem.

Just a thought.
Good luck.

As ArrestMeRed said, maybe a connector to the transmission - isn't.

Well i dont really know it is going to happen until...it happnes. I do recall shifting into neutral one time...my rpms were down between 300 - 600...as soon as I shifted into neutral they jumped up to like 1600 for a second then seemed to sputter around a normal idle.

check your brake light switch, that is what opens the circuit to the tcc solenoid, also ck all your fuses but that probably wont do it if it is intermittent, It is probably a problem in the solonoid pack inside the transmission and a fairly easy fix, it could possibly be a speed sensor failing as well, do not wing the engine up and pull it into gear when this happens as that is a recipe for disaster. Just turn off the vehicle and bleed the converter down for a few minutes . The best way to diagnose this is drive it with a scanner hooked up and watch what is happening when it malfunctions , as you can see there are a lot of things it could be and diagnosing a problem like this is very hard to do without having the truck in my shop [or any shop] I hope this helps.

It's the solenoid, at least that's my bet. TCC solenoid error, causes the converter to stay "locked" when you stop. Could be a piece of dirt in the little jet that "sprays" the fluid into the TCC circuit, that wouldn't throw a code but would jam the jet thingy open and lock the clutch. If it's elevtrical in the solenoid it should throw a code, but contamination might not and would be intermittant. Have the dealer replace the solenoid and see if it helps. Part number is F81Z-7G391-?? ( i think the current one is CB but I'm not sure, I'll look it up tomorrow). If you're out of warranty the part is about $150, and you can install it yourself. Also, just check that it's plugged in real good, it's the passenger side, just forward of the extension housing on top of the pan deck.
