coolant help

I am trying to find a 170 deg. thermostat locally. What is the best/easiest way to drain enough coolant to change out the thermostat?....thanks......JR

Just finished a Cobra R pump and HyperTech 160' Install.

There is a Drain Valve on the lower lefthand side (Facing Truck your Left) of Radiator. I attached a 3/8 inch hose to the side outlet and turned the white nut out to start drain. Let drain for about 6-8 mins and start removing the air intake & filter box all as one piece. Loosen a couple 10mm bolts on throttle bracket and power steering pump Res. bracket. By this time enough fluid has drained to you are ready to remove the thermostat housing ( leave hose attached. Remove 2 long 10mm bolts. I placed a towel around area of thermostat for spillage, but there was none.

Remove gasket (Reuse) Remove thermostat . Reverse procedure.

I think I was done in about 40mins. including the Cobra R pump.

Replace Fluid you drained or put new in. Start Vehicle check for leaks and levels Go Racing. I had already installed the FlexaLite FLX-270 Dual Fan Kit. So if your original Fan & SHroud are still on the truck. You might have a little less room to work.

What Jon said..............drain out about 1 1/2-2 gals of coolant. Didn't spill nary a drop and I reused the coolant that I drained. (It's an 'O' ring, not a 'gasket' and sits right back on top of the new 'stat.)
