I want your opinion on converters.
I want your opinion on converters.
as some of you know I have to pull my tranny again and while I was at it I was going to send my converter out to PI to have it restalled to 3000 RPM's. I like the 2600 stall but I was thinking that an extra 400 RPM's would give me just a little more in the 1/4.
What are most of you guys running and how do you like it?
My friends is telling me to get a 3200 RPM stall and I think thats just to high, but he insist that its a good stall.

Stall speed is never as advertised. Many factors contribute to how your convertor works. The most important being torque, a big block using the same convertor as the one you have now will stall at a higher RPM .
2600 or 2800 should be enough for our L's even with some serious mods.
I am working on Marty Chance of Chance convertors to build a 2 pc model for our trucks. Chance built his rep. by building these 2pc convertors for many of the 2000HP turbo and N2O cars we all read abuot in MM&FF.
Currently he does not offer one due to low demand.
Lets go L owners who really want the best, call him up and let him know there is a demand!!!

Higher stall also = more heat. Not good for the street. 2600-2800 should be about max if it will see any street use. Might look at adding an additional cooler while it's apart also.
I have a 3K stall Yank converter. I've dealt with Mike from Yank before and know lots of others who did also. He makes an awesome product and will custom build what you want. This guy really knows what he's talking about and has the customer service to back it up. I very highly recommend him and his product.
