If I owned a dealership, and a 390 HP mustang came around that I knew a bunch of people are dieing to buy... You bet I'm going to mark that thing up.
Dealers mark up because people will pay it. Why sell a Lightning for 32,000 when you can sell it for 37?
No body buys a dealership so you can get a good deal on a car... It's all about making money

As long as there are stupid with cash dealers will always mark up vehicles. The Honda s2000 is still about 5K over retail.

Oasis Ford by me has 2 2001 Lightnings for both over the sticker price of a new 2002.

Car dealer

Give me a break you whinny babies, my dad owns a ford dealership, and its a bussiness that pays the bills. Its called making money you idiots. Your tellin me that if you were selling your used car and some pencil pusher with a calculator came up with his blue book and said he would give you blue book value for the car, and then a guy called and said he would give you more than the other guy. Who would you sell to?!?!?!?! Price goes up with demand.

by the way you guys are really into lightnings!!

Capitalism 101.

It got me an 02 L on X-plan on a cold slushy Chicago day this February. Want a good deal on a 03 Cobra? Call the dealership in Grand Forks, ND or Buffalo, NY next January. Or find a town with an SVT dealer where they just had a plant closing.

Captain,
I hear where your coming from because when i was looking to purchase my L i look at a red 2001 left over that they where going to sell to me for 29,900. Then i told him to stick it. So i called another dealer and got a price for a 2002 L and he told me 30,000 flat. I said get me one in red. I was very impressed because this was right over the phone and didn't have to wheel and deal. So for you guys out there looking for new L or Cobras just keep calling around and you'll find the right price.

Thanks, Keith

The new T-birds are going for 9 and 10,000 over sticker.
A bunch of people bought more than one and took them to auctions and sold them for $55,000. And that Thunderbird is slow

Look around. . .this happens all over, not just with car dealers.

The price for an item (or a comparable equivalent) should not fluxuate more than 10-15% up or down. This is basic economics. AND YET. . .some places don't lose a minutes sleep GOUGING customers for 50-60-100+% of fluff profit. And the customers are fiercely loyal to them for it, too.
(Yes, I'm talking about a certain TUNER company, and about certain other exhaust system companies who shall remain nameless. . .who am I kidding, EVERYONE will know who I mean!!!)

As consumers in a capitalistic environment, if we let ourselves be victims, we will be victimized early and often by as many vendors as can do it. Our weapon? Don't spend. And watch the prices fall into the realm of the realistic with the quickness.

Cool Shopping for SVT

Supply and demand moves the market. My advice is to be patient and shop. I purchased my 00L over the phone. I live in Houston, made my best deal in SoCal. Ordered and had it shipped from plant in Canada to Houston. Never met my saleswomen except over the phone. Before making the deal I must of spoke to . at least 12 dealerships. Got it for 20% below list.

I paid 30,000 for mine at Jacky Jones in Georgia last fall. It was brand new with 4 miles on it.

Geez... it's amazing that people get so worked up over this.
If an item is marked up, it's because the seller thinks they can get that price, and they probably can.
If you think this is "unfair", go somewhere where they don't mark them up.
If you can't find somewhere who doesn't mark them up... well, then the price you see is the price you pay.
Remember, it's all about making money. That dealer didn't order the Cobra for your benifit, they ordered it for theirs.

Thumbs down

Why you ask? Because the big whig dealer owners do not give a rat's a$$ about customer service/satisfaction....its about how can i screw the next customer out of the most money possible? Always has and always will be that way....
