Hey guys, My parents want me to go to a high performance driving school to become a better driver. So any of you guys gone to one of these schools or know anything about them? Also was it worth the money? Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Bob Bondurant's School, Its a bit out of your way, out here in Phoenix, but its one of the best in the country and you get a 20% discount if you have bought an SVT vehicle in the last year.

I went to the 2 day school at Mid Ohio. The one day school included autocross, skid control, slaalom, and the road course. The 2 day school included the above, plus the second day was all road course. So I would say go for at least 2 days. The 3 day school includes walking the road course and getting very familiar with the track in addition to driving on it. I brought my Lightning so there was a discount of about $200. I think I paid about $1,200 for the 2 days. Also check out www.fastone.com
It's Nelson Ledges road course. I don't know anything about the schools they offer there, but it would be closer to you. I go there quite often for the Fundayz where you can run all day for $100. The track is rough though. Mid Ohio is top notch as far as the track and the school.

Back in the early 90s, I use to driver's school my 86 Saab 9000 Turbo and later, my 91 Camaro Z281LE.

Contact one of the Porsche, Corvette, or BMW clubs. Some of them put on a 2 day school where you drive your own vehicle. They rent out a road course in their area. I ran at Road Atlanta and at Roebling Road. The costs should be around $300 for the weekend.

There will be an hour or two of classroom instruction and then you walk(or ride to each corner) the track with an instructor telling you what you should be doing at each section of the track. Usually, following lunch, you will be paired up with an instructor who knows the track. He or she will ride with you. You will be runing the track with other beginners and their instructors. Speed will be limited and you are told when to brake, etc. You will be on the track for about 20 mins. and then another more advanced group will go out. You may get 2-3 runs that first day. The next morning you will go out with an instructor again. Speeds may be moved up depending on how you feel about it and the instructor's idea of your abilities.

That afternoon, you will/should be approved by your instructor and you(along with the other beginners) will be allowed to drive the course by yourself.

You will learn how your vehicle behaves in different driving situations and you control how fast you go although as a beginner, you will be 'held back' from getting too aggressive. As you go back for additional schools you will move up into more knowledgable, faster groups.

There is no passing allowed except on the longer straight-aways and then, only after the driver ahead of you acknowledges he sees you want to pass. He sticks his left arm out the window and then you can pass. It's relatively safe but things can go wrong so be safe and careful--at least at first .
