Exhaust tips are STAYING clean
Has anyone else had this happen......when I first got the L, it seemed like the exhaust tips got jet black in just a few miles...was always cleaning them to keep 'em looking sharp. After about 5k miles I noticed that they were no longer getting "sutted" up so fast. Cleaned them last night and drove over 300 miles today, turning 8k in total on the truck...when I get home, they are as shiny as when I left.....strange or common?
BTW...I have no mods, use 93 Amoco only, no detonation noted at all....using Motorcraft 5/30 dino oil...going to Amsoil at next change (looks like it is going to use some oil....about a Qt in 3k miles)..........any input?

I use BRASSO metal polish on the inside of the tips (really knocks the carbon quick), and MOTHER'S chrome polish on the exteriors. This sudden switch to staying clean longer almost leads me to believe a lean condition exists (no pinging, though), or maybe the computer is programmed to run extra rich for the first several thousand miles???
I just had my 02 on the dyno and the air/fuel looked about optimal. My truck has 2500 miles on it, and my tips are black.
Perhaps it is some residue from the polish that you are using keeping them clean?
