Unhappy Raced a Bugatti (?)

My girlfriend and I were crusing around all over Austin today (Saturday) because it was such a beautiful day. We saw so many awsome cars including porches, ferraris, lamborghinis, hummers, and Lightnings (about 5 total) among many other awsome vehicles.

Anyways, we were crusing down 2222 looking for a place to eat when we saw some kids (looked about 16) driving an awsome looking car. We had never seen anything like it before, not even in magazines, or at least from what we can remember seeing. By the way it accelerated (super fast) and sounded (fairly quiet) we though that someone might of really customized their mercedes (SL-class). BTW, it was a convertible and had odd looking grills on the sides. We decided to follow them to try get a better look and to ask them what type of car it was. Traffic was pretty bad so we had a hard time trying to catch up to them while driving safely. Luckly they turned on onto highway 1 and guess they say me trying to catch up to them and they slowed down some. Right when I got up to them, they must of saw the lightning emblem and started to take off, but my girlfriend already had the window down to ask them what type of car it was. They said Bugatti and she asked again to make sure. BTW, we did not see any emblems on the back or side of the vehicle. She had never heard of that type of car and I thought they made old cars and some newer street illegal cars.

Right after she said 'Thank you', we both gunned it. Highway was clear (enough to be safe) and we were at about 80 mph. I must say, I got the worst spanking ever. Easily within 2 seconds that car was about 1.5 to 2 car lengths ahead of me and by the time I hit 110mph they were long gone.

I did some research and found on the bugatti web site the car it looked like called the EB118. It has the same side grills, same distinct looking side view (since I could never see the front), and same type of leather seats and interior that I saw (orange looking yet very expensive). It said it was only a coupe, but on another web site I found, it said there was also a convertible (do a search for bugatti 118 spider). Interesting though, both web sites said only 1 was ever made. It is very hard for me to believe that some 16 year olds are around Austin driving a 1 of a kind car. Anyone have any ideas of what type of car this was? It is possible that we didn't hear what he said too well at 80 mph. Or is there a new production vehicle out that shares the same characteristics?

if i remember right, a while back in car and driver or a magazine like that there was something about a bugatti veryon coming out. i remember something about it being a W-16??? does that sound right? i also remember reading that its goin to be around 700k and it will have 1001hp and just short of 1000tq. If that was the veryon those kids either stole it, have ETREMELY rich parents, or made some big time cash doin some internet thing. ill see what i can find out if it was ever released or not.

Bugatti, the young Bugatti EB 118 comes with the first 18-cylinder engine in a passenger car.

The 6.3-litre engine develops 404 kW (555 hp) at 6,800 rpm.

Three rows of 6-cylinder banks are joined in a "W" shape in this engine. This results in exceptional compactness and extremely quiet running

D@MN fugly if you ask me...

J15BIG, it was not that exotic looking. It looked more like this picture or atleast from the side:

Also from the rear it had two dual exhausts similar to the Chiron. Maybe someday I will see it again and see if they are willing to pull over.
