I could only stand to read about half of that article... Then I went to the "Poll results" and noticed that I'm now a wacko for loving lots of HP. I think we all know who the real wacko is...

If some people had their way we would all be riding bicycles. It is the "I know what is best for you" thinking. I think we should have a new federal law, your transportation and your lawn mower have to be the same vehicle!!

The guys IS a wacko! People need to mind their own business. If he wants to drive an econobox, have at it. That's no different than telling someone they don't need to buy a house or car larger than what they can functionally use.

He mentioned all ithat t will do is put your name in the obituary or get you in trouble.....so will a lot of things in life if used the wrong way. Guns, knives, oh and I forgot horsepower.

What an idiot....he needs a life. I wish I had time to type letters about useless information and take the time to post it and send it to legislators.

Sorry for ranting....

Thumbs up

Come on guys, he's only asking for a sensible .06 ratio. For a 4600 lb truck that would be about 279 horsepower.

This could open up a whole new venue here, 'The De-Tuners'.
You could join in such posts as:

My De-Tuner got me down to 254hp which is less than a Suburban, stock!

Sal, please where's my chip? I've got to get my truck registered and I'm sick of riding the bus.

Hey guys, is it possible to mount a second hitch under the factory one? I'm detuned so much now I've got terrible engine knock. I figured another 300 lbs and I'm street legal.
(and don't say
'wings' I've got four wings now, all in the closed position!)

Oh man!

That pi$$ed me off! I wrote an email to those performance traitors. I wish I had copy-n-pasted it but forgot to. I told them what I thought of them and I have been listening to them for many years. How anti-freedom, anti-capitalistic that laughing geek is.............

MORON, he had one point though, sports cars don't have to be all about HP, it is the whole package, but you still need power .

Powerfull cars get people in trouble and in the morques?????? No stupid people do that to themselves. It's just like saying guns kill people, you know they just hover around and shoot someone for no reason at all.

alright did anyone read this page:
http://cartalk.cars.com/About/Rant/hp-followup.html

my favorite:
Tom:

You arrogant, elitist, effete, eastern, pinko-commie liberal technonerd. Who are you to demand that the horsepower-to- weight ratio be regulated? Who gets to decide? And what's magic about .06? What's to keep the lawyers from setting it at 04 or .02?

I've got an idea! Let's legislate a maximum horsepower-to-weight ratio of .01 and a maximum speed limit of 25 mph. This will really help with both safety and environmental concerns. And while we're at it, let's ban the use of fossil fuels for any purpose.

Let's face it, Tom--you're good at being a technocomedian. Stick to what you're good at and leave the policy-making to others.

Dr. Stephen Whiteaker, Ph.D.

P.S. I also think it is very cruel of you to refer to your
producer as "steamed."

I thought vehicles had three saftey devices besides an airbag or seatbelt:
1. Steering Wheel
2. THROTTLE
3. Brakes
You can only use #2 if the vehicle reacts to it in a proper manner. Hit the throttle in a Geo Metro and the vehicle does not react quickly enough, thereby taking away a saftey device.
IMO

In motorcycling, power is your main weapon for getting out of trouble. Being able to zip out of a tight/dangerous situation quickly has saved my a$$ quite a few times. To me, limiting power will not solve this guy's problem. I think it's the drivers and their attitudes that need to be worked on. I've been tailgated more by ordinary people in ordinary cars than those in sports cars. And slow drivers in underpowered cars are definitely a road hazard. Boy I hope this guy doesn't get too far in his propaganda.

"Tom, you ignorant ****"

Smile

Reminds me of the story about the protestor yelling at the Steam shovel operator,

"Hey, don't you know you're putting 10 men with shovels out of work?!"

To which the operator replied,
"Why not 100 men with teaspoons?"
