Rims and traction?

A lot of rims Im looking at are not as wide as our stock rims. The ones I really like are only 8.5 wide. This means the tires are goin to be something like 275s or around there. How much does traction suffer with a thinner tire?

I lost about 3 seconds at the track going from a 295 to a 275, but it was still on the stock rims. I'm hoping to get 17 x 10.75 rims for my next set.
