Unhappy To the community.

Dear fellow L owners,

I have some very sad news As you all know, we drive extremely quick trucks. Some of us like to street race, some do not. I have never been in a bad accident, seen one, or even known someone who has seen or been in a bad one. Tonight this all changed. My friend took his girlfriend to watch street racing at one the more popular tracks in the S.F. Bay Area. I wasn't there, because frankly, watching racing is pretty boring for me. As usual, the two stood to the side of the street where the other spectators stood and watched in awe as each car flew by at speeds of 90+ MPH. Two cars lined up and launched off, everything was fine until one of the cars lost control and spun off to the side. The car that spun out of control swung around and swiped my best friend and his girlfriend. My friend tried his best to pull her out of the way since he was on the inside. It was too late, the car had hit her, and pinned her between the car, and another parked car. She was trapped between the two, until the driver of the car that crashed quickly drove away. That's right, after he crashed, and hit someone, he drove away. I spoke with my friend, but he was in hysterics, and couldn't talk anymore. So far this is all I have gotten: my friend is ok, but his girlfriend is in critical condition in the hospital.

I just wanted to let everyone know about what happened tonight, because you never think anything will happen to you when you street race, but I hate to say it.. someday it'll come knockin' on your door. It's unfortunate that some people have learned the hard way by losing their life, or a friend/family members life. Even if your not racing, your just as prone to an accident. I hope you all take this story into consideration. I realize some of you live for street racing, and it runs through veins, but PLEASE don't be naive, and blow off this story, it's a grim reality that many of us must face. I am in no means trying to preach to anyone on these boards, I just want you all to know that a lot of my friends think they are invincible when they street race, and know they, as well as me have to cope with this.

-Ian

My prayers go out to your friend and her family...........I know exactly what you mean............I have recently found myself driving in the middle lane, at a speed that my dad would probably travel at.............I'm now more content with having people look at the truck and complement it for its looks rather than speed. I guess the 1 time every one or two months that I can go to the track is gonna have to be enough for me. Too many tragic stories on these boards, but even more in real life here in South Fla.................I haven't gone to a NIGHT street racing event in over a year, and never with the truck. I did go to a meet recently during the day, where there were a couple races, but was well enough away from the action to get hurt. Plus, the whole intent of the meet was not JUST racing. It was just good 'ol muscle car fun!

good luck,
JC

Man I hate to hear about this. I hope your friend and his girl turn out to be ok. This is a part of any racing though, not just street. On a track is safer for sure but there are times when the worst can not be prevented. Hopefully this will turn out ok, I cant believe someone would be cold hearted and not try to help, I hope they find him and stick it to him. Tell your friend we are all thinking about them....

Thank you all for your responses. I'm going to print some of these up and read them to my friend and his girl. Happy Mothers Day all. Don't forget to give back to the special lady who brought you life!

I am deeply saddened to hear about this terrible act.

My wife and I both pray that your friends are OK, and that justice is served to the anus that hurt them and ran. We believe there's a special place in hell just for people like him.

Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery,

I guess I missed this thread the day that it was started. My thoughts are with you and everyone that it has affected. I am sure that someone knows who was driving the car that hit your friends girl, people talk so they will get caught and pay for this. Tell them that all of your Lightning family is pulling for her and I hope she gets well soon.
Bill
