New converter problem or just nature of the beast

I recently put an aftermarket converter into the L, pi I think, seems great all around, but at highway speeds, anything above 60, and I don’t have the chip in it is getting reburned, if I get into it enough to force a down shift it will double down shift, probably out of lockup then out of overdrive, but there is a definite delay between the two, the stock one didn’t seem to do this and if it did it was a quicker double downshifts.. any one else see this happening to them????

Tks

Jim,

I am pretty sure that your tuner has to compensate for the new lock up speed (i.e. reburn) when you swap convertors.

With the looser converter, you will now be able to feel the lock up working, it will feel like another gear. I have JDM race chip from last year, that locks up the converter at about 7-8 mph and then shifts to 2nd gear at 20mph. The lock up shifts every bit as strong as the shift to 2nd or drive, matter of fact when it first happened I thought why the hell did he make it shift to 2nd at 7mph, then I realized it was the lock up, it feels like a 5 speed.
