Thumbs up O/T Test Drove the 03 Cobra Today!!

This time it was a production unit and not a prototype. Yep, It's fast! I took it out on the test track at work today and made a few laps! Yellow covert. Anyone on here that has one on order is going to love it. I think my truck needs a friend in the garage!

I admit I did get the after thought of trading my L in. SVT did a nice job! It did better out of the hole then I thought it would. No wheel hop. As for those wondering if it feels front heavy with the added weight compared to the 99-01's? NO!!!

Funny thing did cross my mind while driving the car. How would this car look with that white rabbit behind the wheel?

I actually would love to trade in the L for the Cobra, but at 40k for a vert with all the dealers I have spoken to, not giving A
-Plan, looks like I am sticking with the L for now. I know it has be seriously underated at 390 HP. With the blower alone it should be over 400, let alone the cylinder heads, have been redone. That's 1 bad ride.

motownblown01,
Have you tried NorthBros. Ford? They gave me A plan on my Lightning. Yes, It is underrated. I heard 410-417 at the Flywheel. That is just rumor.

Black2000L,
I work at the Experimental Vehicle Building. I have a few job descriptions. One is a Engineering Technologist. Yes, It's nice being in a position to evaluate our products from time to time.

Next week I will have a specialty car at the Canton High Scool car show on Sunday. I'm one of the judges and I bring a specialty car for the kids each year. Last year I had a 2002 Black T-Bird. This year I have something sweet for the Dad's to drool on. It's a Mercury!!

I got this from an earlier thread. It's second or third hand info; but, judging from dyno numbers from new '03s, it sounds like gospel to me.

HI!... QUOTE from someone on the CORVETTE forum ::

I just talked to a buddy of mine that works at the FORD engine plant here in WINDSOR. He went down to the dyno room to talk to a friend and they just happen to have a 2003 MUSTANG COBRA 4.6, 4-valve, supercharged engine on the dyno. The ROMEO plant had sent them one to have dynoed. Well let's just say that FORD's is massivly underating that engine's H.P at 390H.P (FLYWHEEL). He saw the dyno sheets stating that it had made 441H.P (FLYWHEEL) with all acceseries and full exhaust system. WOW!!!!!! I think if those are the TRUE #'s then the Z06 VETTES are going to be in trouble!!!!!!!

BullittMcqueen,
Our track is not a 1/4 mile track. I don't have times. I do have a moded Lightning and the Cobra told me it would eat my L for lunch! In a nut shell it is fast. If the Cobra owners do pretty much the same mods we do it is all over for the Z06. A seriouse contender to the Viper in a 1/4 mile race with the right mods. There is not much room for a larger lower pulley.

SVT was able to use one drive belt for the S/C and front accessories. If i had one I would first move the altinator away from the engine to make room for a larger crank pulley. It is a tight fit for the accessories. Just a 4# pulley and chip will rock that car. It felt strong! I could tell the car was laughing at what I was asking for. It really made me think what the GT40 Is going to be capable of when it hits the dealers. I will not believe the GT40 will be close to 500hp. This set-up showed what a Ford mod motor was capable of.

Odin,
Never heard the hp rating that high at the flywheel. It could have been a toy engine SVT put together just to see what off the shelf components could do?

Neal,
Sounds like they were not corrected numbers. That would tell me that 410-417 would be right if corrected. I can't say the RW hp numbers I have been told. If any 03 Cobra's RW dyno's at over 400hp I will eat my Lightning. Starting with the seats first!

Looks like Ford is trying to say to the out-going CamBirds, " Don't go away mad, just go away." The Cobra finally has a big set of Titanium ones now. YAY !
