Weight of a Steel Hood?

I just purchased & had installed a steel cowl hood for my L and it seems pretty heavy. When I 1st purchased the truck about 2 months ago, I imediatly put the 18' chrome replica's in place of the stock wheels. It seems all I have done since I bought my L is add weight to it. Will these 2 appearance mods affect my power much. I dont feel much power difference but it could be. Any help on this subject will be appreciated.

P.S.-To make up for the problem I have the following mods ready to put it soon as I get the chance: JDM Stage 1 Kit, and Borla Exhaust System.

The trucks on this board all vary in weight quite a bit, I guess all you can do is make more power. At the track lose the tailgate, spare tire, and hitch. This will take off somewhere around 200 #'s. What hood did you get? I got the Reflexxions Cobra Cowl hood which weighs about 20#'s more than stock.

Relocate the battery to the back to help with the weight distribution. The front is the last place you want to add weight to thiese trucks.

Hood

I also got the Reflexions Cowl Hood. Thats some pretty good quarter mile numbers you ran there too. Maybe I will be somewhat close to that with my mods. Thanks for the info.

Your chrome replicas should weigh about the same as stock rims... 27-28lbs.

Yeah, the reflexxions hood weighs about 40-42lbs...so its twice as heavy as the stock hood. Though 20lbs isn't THAT much weight added to the truck, I doubt it will effect your ETs greatly, unless you're trying to squeeze out that last .02secs...

It won't make much of a difference on the street. At the track, all things being equal....a 100lbs. is about a tenth. However, I have run my truck full weight and hit better times than when I stripped the seat and tailgate. I think there are too many other parameters to worry about 40lbs. Heck some of us weigh 40lbs more than the next guy.

I know that it is a general rule of thumb to at least get rid of the tailgate and spare, but I have been reading about alot of people running better time with the tailgate on. Why is this?

Traction.

It is a delect balance at the strip with taking weight off the rear of our truck vs being able to keep the tires from slipping.
