LINE MOD vs DRIVE TRANE
LINE MOD vs DRIVE TRANE
ok, question for those of you who have line mod's installed...
How often do you have to replace your U joints on your drive shaft. Has anyone chipped any teeth on their rear diff's ring or spur gears?
I haven't had any problems yet, but with as hard as my L shifts now, it just seems like somethings gonna give... I just hope it's a U joint and not some expensive...
Please post your experiences!

What makes you say that?
The reason I ask is because I had my Tahoe supercharged with a stiffer shift and I went through 2 posi's, 1 ring gear and 24 u-joints before I had any problems with the tranny...
so, I'm quite experienced with breaking drive train components, I was just trying to ascertain the strength of the ford drive train...
any info either way would be appriciated...
it's tough making a 6900lb Tahoe (with me and all of my stereo equipment) go 0-60 in 6.2 seconds... expensive also...

This kid I know (me) has a Lightning that was stock until 15,000 miles, then he put a chip, filter, MAF, 2# pulley and line mod valve in for kicks. Since then, he's made it a point to make sure that the truck barks 2nd gear at every chance possible (even if it means jacking on the brakes to stop in time so he doesn't hit the car coming up quick in front of him). Now said truck has over 50,000 miles with absolutely no tranny or (non-leak related) rear end problems.
Point of the story: buy the line mod valve and put in pronto tonto. Like your other mods (I'm assuming...or hoping), it will give you as much of a smile as the chip did, and pulley did (...or will if you don't have them yet).

I've been eyeing up some traction bars, but haven't done it yet... I've been reading every and all posts about em that I see on here...
Obviously a good investment... just so darn expensive...

Though im sure Doug didn't quite mean it that bluntly, but yes. These drivelines are very strong, with the transmission being the weak link. Though a note, that the Alummiun drive shafts on stock 2k1 and 2k2 Lightnings will break to obsessive axle wrap (Cure: Any Traction Bar).

I installed the JDM line valve mod this past weekend,,When I had my chip reburned for my pulley,I had JDM take the stiff parameter out, just leave the 1-2 shift drop of torque out..It shifted like normal untill the line mod, now it feels like someone rear ended me at about 50mph when it shifts under acceleration..I don't know,,seems kinda voilent now..
Gen 2 Ls have a 9:75 inch gearset, way stronger than the 8.8 which is a good piece, also bigger than the all time best diff that ford motor company ever produced thw 9 inch.I dont think you will be breaking it anytime soon,as far as u-joints go the yukon has a more severe angle on the joint than the lightning, anytime you have a severe angle on the joints they will wear much quicker.Just givin my humble opinion.
