Is 3K to early???

My 02 L just hit 3000 miles and I would like to use synthetic oil on this change. Should I let it go one more oil change before going to synth. or is 3K enough? BTW I changed the oil at 1500 and used the Motorcraft 5w-20. Any help is appreciated. Thanks...

I switched at 1500. I changed the oil the very first time at 500miles at the dealership and then havent used it ever again.

I decided to wait until over 10,000 miles before switching. I wanted to make sure everything is broken in well before adding an oil that will prevent a proper break-in. People have switched very early with no problems, others have had problems but you can't really say if the problems were a result of switching too soon. My truck has 10,300 miles and I am thinking about making the switch from 5w-20 synblend to Mobil-1 5w-30 full syn this weekend.

Thanks guys. I will probably go ahead and change over. I have only 12 passes on her in those 3000 miles but she feels pretty strong.

Iam waiting for 10K before switching over myself. But this past weekend I changed over to Amsoil synthetic ATF in the tranny. My mechanic brought up a good point, many cars, come from the factory with synthetic motor oil in them

I emailed Amsoil about when to change to synthetic and told him I had 3000 miles on my L. He responded telling me that it would be OK to go ahead and switch to Amsoil 5 W30 synthetic. I was tempted but I waited and next time I'm switching engine oil and transmission fluid to synthetic. I plan on maybe 5000 miles.
