Attn: Factory Tech/Gregg; Magnet Question?
While draining the original ATF when I had your Valve Body installed, I was told that there was tons of little metal debris, etc in the fluid, due to the lack of the little magnet in the tranny (or wherever it's supposed to be). I was advised that before running it for too long, I should have the magnet installed. In other words, drain the new pan, drop the pan, have the magnet inserted (wherever it's supposed to go), and refilled with new ATF.
Is the presence of this magnet ABSOLUTELY necessary? Will my tranny be subject to unnecessary abuse without it? Please advise.......I know a lot of guys locally have had the same problem, and I really don't know if they went ahead and had the magnet installed afterwards.
thanks a bunch......AGAIN!

I had the dealership put in the 4x4 trans pan during my 30,000 mile servicing. When Will took down the pan to do the FT valve body mod, the fluid in the pan looked like as if it was metallic paint! Will pointed out that the magnet was not in the new pan. I have 38,300 miles on the beast. I have an idea it is not, but is it common for the fluid to resemble metallic paint (not viscocity wise, OF COURSE). Is this particulate going be damaging down the line or what? Should I take it back to the dealership and say, "What's the dilly?". Any help will be welcome!
the dealership should have swapped the magnet over to the new pan for you.. i think they should install a magnet in the pan, change the filter, and flush all the old tranny fluid out.
my 4x4 pan came with a new magnet already installed.. i kept the old one just in case tho..

You need the magnet, the particles will eventually get into the valve body wormtrail and clog a valve somewhere. It's not so serious that you should get a rental car, but you should put one in when you get a chance.
anyone who needs one, shoot me an e-mail address and I'll send you one, free if you have my valve body (I'll take your word for it) or $1 for anyone else, to cover postage.
