Ok, that is a good question and one that I am forced to face dailey. My brother has the Syclone and my dad has that Typhoon. We both stay away from my dad because he has money to buy whatever he wants... and he wants speed!

As for my brother who had done a chip and stock filter in his Syclone (only 5,000 Miles on the vehicle) and we did a little street racing. So here is a little of how it went....

We were on a 50 MPH street with lights when the lights changed I started to burn the tires and we were both staging the torque converters as much as possible. I saw taillights right away. He jumped across the intersection before I could say "hookup". As my tires spun a little across the intersection he was already on his way ( go figure who'd thunk all wheel drive works). I was a little discouraged at this point due to the fact he had about a car length on me already, but I held strong and mashed the peddle.

Finally after about 40 MPH I could see myself gaining, and pulling strong on his truck. He didn't have the torque to push the wind. By the time we hit 90 I was about dead even with him and pulling pretty well still. So we went back and did some 'bench racing' telling who was faster, better, stronger and finally came to the conclusion that they are almost even at stock w/chip and filter.

If the person you are heading up against has done anything, I suggest you visit a couple of site talked about on this forum before you throw your 'pinks' into the ring.

If it's a stock Typhoon, go ahead, you don't have too much to worrry about.

14.1 at around 95... is stock...

I've seen em run into the 11's though...

it's a tough call... if he's stock, you should have no problem running him over... but if he's not...........

Turbo charged V6's... light *** truck... just make sure you lauch good... don't roach your tires...he's got AWD...

my 99 ran 13.20s with just chip/filter

my 00 ran 12.80s with chip/filter/2lb pully

Im hoping my 02 (which is only hours away) will be one of the fast ones like 13.4-5 and I wont have to do anything to it.I dont want the warrantee issues but I dont want to get beat by a local either. In my area,Im the man to beat,Most people around here have 15 second chevys(like this kids old truck).

I now know I wont race him on the street, only at the track seeing we can outrun them by the end.
This kid doesnt have the brains or the money to go up against me mod for mod.....but id like to stay stock on my new 02

Had the chance to buy a Typhoon about 2 years ago for under 10G's and wish I would have neve passed it up. I like the idea of a small light truck with AWD and a blower. I've heard stories of them being Mustang, Vette, and Camero killers. Maybe there will be one tomorrow at Clay City and one of the Lightnings can run him.

if you have a chance to buy either syclone or typhoon for cheap do not pass that up,they are going to be worth plenty in the future.as for the how fast they are part,my dad bought one when they first came out and had a filter, exhaust and turbo timer done to it and that thing was pretty damn fast and the take offs are great.never had ran a 1/4 pass with it but i have driven both a lightning and a stock typhoon and would say by seat of the pants the lightning has it but when you start in with mods on both, the typhoons and syclones will end up faster.

Talking I have had both !!!

I had a typhoon back in 92. I will say that a lightning will loose on the street or even the 1/4 my stock typhoon ran 13.82 .
I know lightnings run faster stock but there is nothing to do to launch a typhoon or syclone and the will run 13's in the rain
I did a chip - filter and exhaust and ran 12.86 then went nuts with fuel pumps (a must) and brodix heads and custom down tube and ran 11.97 all the time so just watch out for them even though there 10 yrs old
I love my new 02 lightning better than typhoon I need to have tire smoke you don't in a typhoon
sorry for long post
