Angry Blew Driveshaft

Well blew the driveshaft tonight, nothing was different than every other time gettin on it. Anyone have any ideas or experiences with this problem???? Just finally got it back here a few min ago so haven't even talked to dealer yet. It is lowered, probably a 2/2 drop. Only used the hangers in the rear and the stock shackles so not sure how far drop that is. Any help??

Thanks

Now your starting to understand the reason we buy traction devices. They keep the axle from wrapping up and in turn letting the driveshaft make contact with something (body, with a drop). Which will cause problems . Contact your tuner for a solution to this problem

Did you use the pinion shims to correct the pinion angle. I have the same exact rear drop and used 6 degree shims to correct the pinion angle and at the moment don't have traction bars either.

I made three runs Thursday night without incident but I was uneasy about it without traction bars.

I measured mine and I got a three inch drop in the rear.

indy: Can you say "traction device"--Truck-Traks, Caltracks, JDM bars?

You might want to email DL, he's had some experience with that problem too ---LOL

The rear yoke on the aluminum shaft, is larger that on the 99'-00' steel one for strength. Because of this, it will bind sooner than the older steel shaft, due to the upward rotation of the rear end under acceleration.

Truck-Traks will solve this problem.

Dan, how many passes have you made since you got yours?

They do two things mainly...

Help with traction problems & Stop Axle wrapup. Axle wrapup is when you load the rear and the pinion shoots upward. The 01 & up aluminum shaft is larger and hits the rear when it wraps up. This cause the sahft to bind and brake. Pinion angle is a big factor with this as well. On a 3 or 4 rear drop you need 5-7 degrees of change in the pinion angle for best results.
