Talking Holy HID headlights Batman!

OK, so it's not a mod for everyone, but I got the Sylvania HID headlights installed... and the fog lights just looked like #$@!.

So I bought HID fogs from www.hidkits.com (9005 bulb for 2001). Since our foglamps are on the same lines as the DRLs, it's a 15A fuse, so I didn't have to rewire anything.

Long story short: a really nice kit, simple 30 minute install (only 30 minutes because I'm **** and cleaned everything first).

Amazing fill.... just imagine stock lighting, but about 3x brighter. I hopped in a car in front of the Lightning and it is not blinding, so it's just to my benefit.

Pictures coming shortly...

doh!

It'll probably be tomorrow since I forgot the camera today.

They are really nice lights. Both don't have that obnoxious ricer blue that I was worried about, just bright clean white light.

Sounds great. That's the Xenarc kit, right? What bulb do they use for the high beams?

Kits

The Xenarc kits uses Hyper white 50W halogen for the high beams. Needless to say, they are essentially just to meet DOT regulations because they don't add much light.

The HID fog lamps use a Phillips 35W HID buld custom mounted to immitate a 9005 bulb.

$$$

Ah the golden question. How much...

The Xenarcs are $895 I believe

The fog lights were $495.

So yes, I spent $1500 on my headlights...

All the motor goodies are coming soon as well.

Unhappy yup.

Unfortunately I'm not kidding. Hence the "not a mod for everyone"

If you don't do a lot of driving, or don't need brighter lights, its a real waste. If you just want the look, go get a set of hyper-whites for $100.

On the other hand, I'm on the mountain passes a lot. When I'm not in the pass, I'm shing my lamps on the boat setting up gear for a night SCUBA dive, so I really do want/need the additional light.

HIDs are definetly a "get what you pay for" thing. Having them on my other car (C32) and not the lightning was driving me crazy, so I went for it. Photos coming soon, I promise!

The HID's on my BMW are fantastic for our crappy NW weather. Would like to have them on the truck too. Are the head lights just bulbs or lens too?

Xenarc

The Xenarc Headlights are a REALLY top-notch kit.

They require a small bit of work (hang a power relay and run power wires to both sides via the fan shroad), but they are very nice.

Xenarc Ballasts are integrated into the headlight housing, so to answer your question, they are a full headlamp housing kit, not a bulb or kit that modifies your current beams.

If you want to see them in person, we can arrange something sometime...

Thumbs up

Good for you; it's all about doing what you want. I am going to do the headlights too; just haven't got to it. I look at it as a safety issue to some extent. What price do you put on that?

Xenarc HID's

The really nice thing about the Xenarc kit is how easy it is to install, & how complete it is. The entire headlight capsule is replaced, a relay/fuse package that has a built-on mounting clip, & all wiring is provided, it took me about 45 minutes from start to finish, including reaiming the HID capsules using the original Ford setup. Another benefit is I when you select high beams the lows stay on as well. It's a top notch kit, expensive, but nice. I've had mine about 6 months & have never regretted it for a moment.

I'd love to get the full blown Xenarc kit on my L, but after blowing $2700 on the tunes I'm still on my wife's sh!! list. "But honey, I saved more than that with X-plan. Makes sense, right?"

Maybe next year ...
