Who to Trust???

Ok, here is my dilemma.........i want a pulley, (2lber) but i've heard from everybody practically that i can't do this until i get my plugs changed. Ok, well, i thought i could do it....i don't feel confident enough. Can i trust a regular mechanic to do this job or can i go to a specialty place? I love my L and don't want just any idiot working on it......Ford said they won't change the plugs b/c of warranty......WELL, do you guys know of anywhere, or is ANYONE close enough to help????

Sincerely,
Wanting a Pulley Really A Lot,

Bill

Just do it yourself. Set aside a few hours. All you need is a 3/8 ratchet with alot of extensions and a spark plug socket, and 1/4 ratchet with an extension and 7mm swivel socket. The job is easy, just pure intimidation.

The chiken is agreeing with captainoblivious! It's a piece of cake, do it yourself. There have been so many negative post about the plug change that it getting kind of old. It's easy, just takes a little time. A monkey could do it with a little bud light.

Tim PS. Just remember to finger tighten them and give them another 1/16th turn. Don't want to strip the aluminum holes.

Tim

If you pay 150.00 to get it done, you're crazy or have money to throw away. I had someone show me and was surprised at how much easier it was that I figured it would be. BUT you really need the right tools. The engine was even hot when I did it: went to work on it after a 1.5 hr drive and no cooldown.

This is true...it's easy. I just changed mine for the first time...took me about 2 hours. When I started, I didn't even know where the plugs were!!! LOL

I'm having em changed by the dealer only because I am having them look at the front end Clunk thing.

I run a 4lb pulley on my 01,i always run at least 92 octane fuel, but try to get sunoco 94 when I can get it,more often than not I run 93 octane because thats what they have where I usually buy my fuel.My mods are pretty mild, pulley, jdm chip,K&N filter ,nitto drag radials and lowering shackles from pauls High perf.ORIGNAL PLUGS and I get no detonation at all,I think that with the right tune up on your chip as long as you get good fuel you can leave your plugs alone unless they are high mileage and need to be replaced,in that case you could go with something a little colder.I get no detonation even when I am hooking hard at wot in any gear regardless of the amount of load on the engine.
If you want to change the plugs you should do it yourself because it isnt nearly as hard as everyone is making it out to be and it will get you accustomed to doing it on your own, your intimidated not by the plug change but by everyone elses exagerating how hard it is.
