Ok, just got my 01 Tails in from Ford, and was going to put them on, but have a question....

ok, the screws that screw in from the side of the tailgate area, do they need to be shortened? (They look like they do) I think i need to shave off about 1/4-1/2 inch so it doesn't pierce the foil inside.
Yes?

Also, are these the screws that make their own thread as you screw them in? b/c i don't see any threads in the new lights.....

They definetely need to be shortened. I have a friend with a 00 that bought 01 tails and did not look like you did, the screw pierced the silver & needless to say he has a sweet aftermarket puddle of dirt in his lenses. The condensation at night is terrible too. Dont know about the self tapping screws though.

 

the screws work fine , just cut them down about a 1/4 inch and then I used a couple washers also , do not tighten too much

 

No need to cut the screws down just a get a few washers for each bolt and use them to shim up the bolts works fine.
