Question Ebay Auction???

Has anyone ever sold a car over ebay? I am selling my truck, and thought about puting on there. Has anyone had luck with this? What kind of costs are involved? Do you think I should try to sell my rims with the truck, or seperately? Thanks for any input...

Not really sure, i just know they take a small percentage of whatever you are selling, so if its a 30K truck, they might make a few hundred off you?

Why are you selling your truck anyway if you don't mind me asking? and what do you want for your rims?

Wink

Foo,
I hate selling things so I don't know much about how E-bay works, but have heard from other people who have used it and they swear by it.
Jon,
Foo wants to get an 01 zo6, and he is asking $4,000 for his new rims and tires with only a few hundred miles on them. Seems like a good deal to me.

I think it is only 40.00 to post on ebaymotors and 40 more if you sell . the do not charge a percentage on ebaymotors. I have never sold on there but I bought my excursion on there was thinking about posting mine also for a while..may still do it . but get a non refundable deposit within a few days of closing
good luck

I sold a car a while back on there. $40 to put it on and $40 at the end no matter how much it goes for. People on there go nuts if they think it's a bargain. I sold me 1973 AMC Matador on there for under $500 and a guy from TN drove all the way to MA to get it. I know that there is much less rust in TN than in MA to begin with. But anyway, good luck if you go that route. I had no problems when i did it.

Honestly.............My opinion,

I have bought and sold quite a bit on eBay.

There are alot of kids bidding for fun, then flakes that win an auction, then make excuses about why they cannot pay for the item. Then you get the ones that e-mail you and ask what is your reserve ? Then they bid it up to just under reserve, and your auction ends, and you do not sell your truck. Plus you're $40 poorer. If you have big cajones, or friends to bid and bail you out, you can list with no reserve. Nobody wants to bid if you start off with too high of an opening bid. Everybody thinks that they are going to own something for .10 on the dollar. That would be nice, but it's not the real world.

The ones making money ? eBay. If you are trying to actually get what your truck is worth............. I'd guess, and say it will not sell on eBay. Go and learn the search function at eBay. Search all ended Lightnings. See how many sold versus did not sell.

Would you spend $25K+ for something you have not seen or drove, from someone that you don't know, at an internet auction?

Just my opinion from actually selling and buying, and watching alot there.

thanks for the info guys...

FastAsL,
I was going to try and sell it with the Okoles, but what would be a fair asking price for them? They were $308 new.

LightninSVT,
Bill hit the nail right on the head. Thanks

There is alot of underhanded dealing going on at eBay. Some people have a couple of different e-mail addresses, and a couple different accounts, and usernames at eBay. They have been caught bidding on their own auctions. I have caught someone before. When turned into eBay, they get a slap on the hands.

Some sellers list with no reserve to get alot of bidding. They may have a friend bid (bail them out) at the last, so that the item does not sell for less than it's worth. The deal is bogus and will not be completed.

Or............Have the friend/friends bid it up close to what the seller wants, hopefully pick up another hot bidder in the heat of things, then the friend drops out and hopefully the auction price ends where it was supposed to.

Very complicated..................When played like this, alot of people actually sell things for what they're worth..........or alot more.

Most people, by nature, are very thrifty (nice way of saying tight, or cheap). I knew a guy that used to say " The person was so tight that you couldn't drive a needle up their *** with a sledgehammer." LOL

Feel free to ask anymore questions.

I hope you sell your truck for what you're wanting.

i wouldn't sell a car on ebay. most things selling on ebay that are not rare do not sell for much at all. i have watched many car auctions on there, and just about everything sells for less than they are worth. by all rights try, but make sure you have a friend to bail it out, because you can loose 1000's. you don't see very many cars reach near what they worth, period. only ferarris and such tend to reach that mark.

$4000.00
Im not saying that you are asking too much......

I am saying I would not want to be sitting on $4000 in wheels and tires.OUCH,If I spent 4 grand on wheels which I personally wouldnt new nevermind used,I would be buried in the truck with 1 of the wheels as a head stone The rest in the ground with me.Good luck,They are beautiful!!!
