"exhausted" exhaust question

It's time I made my truck sound as good as it looks.
I want a "good sound". I want deep, tame at idle and cruise, and a -little- louder when I step on it. Over all, just a step louder than stock.
I don't want to replace any headers or cats... just the muffler. Borla looks goofy, and I don't like the idea of a "glass pack". The "plain old" F150s sound awsome with only a flowmaster... I want something like that.
Any advice?

Your description of the 'sound' you want is just what I wanted--and got from JDM's Magnaflow(single muffler, #14568) stainless-steel cat back system, including 4 1/2" dia. s/s tips. The tail pipes are formed so that any traction device will clear them--unlike the stock pipes.

I guess you could go with just the muffler. Btw, that muffler has an internal X-pipe .
