'99 Dyno #'s

Hey all...just got my 99 dynoed yesterday. I was able to pull 371 at the rear wheels with 463 pounds of torque. I'm hoping that's pretty good for a 99, I know these 01 and up are pulling a lot more. My mods are: dual ravin mufflers,1.5 upper pulley, #4 lower, 90mm maf, JDM open air filter, 3:73's and tuned by Jerry Wrobloski (spelling?).

So, what should I do to get it in the 400/500 club?

I do not fully understand why the 99 and 00 trucks do not dyno as well as the 01. I noticed you have the 90mm MAF and I also assume you have the intercooler upgrade to give you an equivalent intercooler as the 01. Does the different lower intake give the 01 that much of an advantage? Does anyone know for sure why the 01's make so much more power than the 99 and 00 with an equivalent setup. Does the computer in the 01 make the difference???

Rob,
Most of the power is coming from the computer not the new intercooler and intake like everyone wants to believe, the 99-00 L's have a very rich air-fuel varying around 10.5 on average and the 01 L's the air-fuel has been around 11.8 on average and that alone is where most of the HP is coming from i believe!

If that was the case, then why do they maintain the advantage when both have chips? Don't the tuners lan them out in order to gain hp? Thanks.

I never understood this. If you upgrade to 3.73 gears, aluminum drive shaft, intercooler and 90mm mass air, why are you putting down the same numbers as 01's??? I'm probably missing something.

I also do not understand this. I also thought the tuners had the ability to lean them out and run the same air/fuel as a 01 with a chip.

Cool

All of the tuners have the availability to lean out the chips for more power but on the 99-00 computers there is alot more room for them to lean the chip out to get more power than a 01 that is already 1 full point leaner on stock computer. There are other ways for power like moving the timing and making changes in the transmission and convertor and etc... Ask any tuner they will tell you that the 01 computers are alot leaner than the 99-00 computers, there is nothing wrong with that, this is why i stated earlier that i feel most of the difference in the 01 power over the 99-00 is in the computer.

The main reason is the 01-02's have a more efficient intake manifold (lower intake). Flows better than the 99-00. To do the swap you also need to use the 01-02 blower and I/C adapter.

There was an article in this months MM&FF where they swapped the lower intake on a '99 model with an 01/02 lower and there was NO difference in power. The newer intake has slightly longer runners, but there was no difference in power.

Sal, you listening?

Can the '99 and '00 computer be flashed to have the same program as the '01+?. I know some '99's have been reflashed with the '00 programs (which redered the chip unusable). I would think that as long as the 90mmm MAF was used, a '00 with an '01 program it will operate correctly, right?
