Intake Boot Oil Filter

I'm testing this now. I'll let you know the progress. Please don't laugh. In it's current configuration, it's a complete Home Depot special.

No MOP, it doesn't prevent axle wrap.

I guess I could fill it with CH3NO2, so the vacuum would siphon it into the blower! The mad scientist in me is going to town.

Mucho Power Possibilities

Jay:

I'm very interested in your idea and testing. Is that the 'side' of the motor where the oil(in the intake) is coming from? What about the PCV valve(right side) and its tubes? I know the PCV valve is suppose to close when the intake goes to 'positive' pressure but isn't oil forced up into the intake from that side too?

Thanks for experimenting and helping all of us.

Dan

Dan, on my truck, the oil comes out the drivers side valve cover, where the PCV valve is. I don't see any oil coming from the other side.

Herb Jackson posted on NLOC, that he removed the blower and made some modifications to the line that comes out of the bottom of the intake manifold as well. That line goes to the other valve cover as well as Idle Air Motor mounting boss, then back to the intake boot. I am not getting any oil from that one.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

It seems that the more boost you make, and the more often you are under boost, the more oil you are going to get. If it is caused by blowby, past the rings, that all makes sense.

Every blown motor that I have worked on, always had more blowby. I know a couple of engine builders here in La Habra. One is "Famous Amos" Satterlee, who has tuned fuel cars and boats all his life, swears by Total Seal rings for blown appplications. He say's that they will run longer, with less blowby.

Speedbump, I put about 200 miles on the truck yesterday. I checked the filter, and had very littly oil in it at all. I'm going to remove the boot ahd check it this afternoon.

I'll post the results.

BTW, I don't plan on selling this, unless the board members would rather have me provide a packaged filter. It's actually pretty easy to source.

I'm currently building an aluminum intake tube to replace the rubber boot, and was going to incorporate that into the intake tube. I will eventually finish it out with AN fittings and braided steel hose.
